I have not been sleeping -- part of it is the poison oak I got and the constant itching but I also wake up on the hour and look at the clock. Feel like 1st trimester tired. Hoping to snap out of it!

Also - so spacy -

I have a hard time going to sleep again after my middle of the night pee. I was JUST reading (like, 5 minutes ago) that not getting enough protien during the day can cause you to wake up at night. I figured if I wake up tonight, then I"ll have a high protien snack, and see if it helps.

If I'm lucky I only wake up once a night to go for a pee. But a lot of nights I wake up 3 or 4 times. I find I'm not sleeping as deeply as before, so noises and odd dreams often wake me up. And since my nose and sinuses are more stuffed up right now, I'm waking up from mouth breathing. Sigh.

As to the spacey thing .... oh yeah. I'm right there. Totally spacey right now.

I've been spacey for years...a little over 7 to be exact ;) From placenta brain to mama brain...my brain cells areso gone!

Sleep? Yeah, I think I do that...maybe? I wake up to go pee a few times, but I've decided that if it's not that urgent a feeling,I canjust go back to sleep ;) It's not worth the trip to the bathroom to only get out a couple of drops :) I sleep allright, it's waking up sore that bugs me. I don't sleep incredibly deeply, again, that'sabout 7 years inthe making, but I'm okay. I can wake rested, just sore. I eat snacks inthe middle of the night from time to time, though not necessarily protein. Sometimes I just know that what I need is to eat and I'll be okay and it works.

Yep, I've had sleep problems with all my pregnancies. This time in particular, especially tonight, due to HORRIBLE heartburn.
I'll have to try the protein tip....thanks Persephone!

I think I slept for about half of the night last night. I ruled out all of the usual reasons: the room was cool enough, I hadn't had any caffeine, I wasn't worrying about anything in particular, etc. But I was just awake for at least half of the night. I think surges in Progesterone affect me this way. This is what I've postulated from my other pg's anyway. It is very frustrating, as I feel quite tired during the day. Tonight I am going to try some Chamomile tea before bed in the hope that that will help.

Persephone, I am going to try the protein thing, too. That could be it for me, as I know my body needs tons of protein during pg and I am mostly vegetarian and often struggling to get enough. I am going to put some of those yummy tamari almonds on my nightstand. :)

Last night was the first night that I had a really hard time sleeping. Like I said before, I normally wake up to go pee, and then have a hard time going back to sleep, but last night, I was up every hour, it seemed like. And it wasn't just awake, I wasn't even tired. I would be completely mentally alert. It was really strange. And I had a HUGE amt of protien for dinner (lentils and rice with beans, peas, and a ww tortilla- no meat) so I really didn't think it was that. I also wasn't inclined to get out of bed OR eat. But it was the strangest thing. I'm sleeping with the phone by my bed, cause I"m waiting on a client to call, and I was worried, because last night I started having pelvic pain in my front/hip area, so maybe that was causing my worry and sleeplessness.

eschelt- tamari almonds: tell me about that. They sound yummy! How do you make them? I have almonds, I have tamari...

I too have been having trouble sleeping. With me, there are several factors. First, no matter which side I lie on, my arms go numb, and that wakes me up. So I am constantly tossing and turning, moving my body pillow each time. The pillow makes it more complicated, because it sticks to the sheets, and I have to pull and prod to get the bed clothes over. This usually wakes DH up.
The need to pee wakes me up too, although I am finding that if I stay up till about 11:pm, and pee while I am awake, I have less of a need to pee in the middle of the night.
Because of my Gestational Diabetes, I have to check for ketoacidosis every morning with my "longest held" urine. So, if I haven't peed since 9 or 10pm, and it is now 4:am, I have to turn on the lights to check the strip for ketoacidosis (I am so proud I can spell that word :) ). The light totally wakes me up, so I might as well get up and get dressed.

I am fortunate since I stay at home and don't have kids to watch. I can get up at 4:am, eat breakfast with DH at 6:30 or so, and then take a nap at 8:am! :) I am blessed, too, because DH really wants me to rest as much as possible, so he doesn't get frustrated when I tell him I slept from 9:am till 3:pm :D

Persephone -- I think you're just anxious about your client's birth. You'll get over that in time and sleep soundly while still being able to wake up ready to go shouldyou need to. :)

:yeah I actually get sleepy when I am on call for a client. Maybe it is just that I let myself give in to the sleepy feeling since I know I will be up for a LONG time :D

Persephone, currently I buy tamari almonds at Trader Joe's. I used to buy them at a place like Wild Oats, but they were way too expensive and had way too much sodium to boot. I have tried to make my own (slow cooker recipe that should have worked, but was too oily and they never really "roasted" as they should have.) I would be happy to send you my recipe in case you want to mess with it and figure out how to make it work. Otherwise, look for tamari almonds at TJ's. They are one of my family's favorite snacks!

Yeah, me too. I am exhausted at 10 pm and crash pretty hard but find myself unable to fall back asleep after 4 or 5 am pee. Luckily, i only need to pee once a night. To top it all off, I've developed carpal tunnel in both arms so i sleep with wrist braces and what DH likes to say is a mountain of pillows - one under each arm, one for my head (sometimes 2 if I fall asleep reading) and one between my legs. He's not really sleepng very well either. All the shifting and rearranging of pillows does not make for a peaceful night for him. Well, i guess we're in training for when baby arrives. I find that I can't take a nap duirng the day or else my sleep is even more disturbed. I do try to rest a bit here and there when i can.

I recently discovered some yummy almonds made by Diamond nuts. They come in various flavors but my favorite is the Wasabi and Soy. Very kicky but kinda salty. They are readily available at the supermarket. I do love those TJ nuts though.

To make your own Tamari Almonds:

4 cups whole almonds
1/4 cup tamari sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp honey
* 1/2 tsp hot sauce
* 1/4 tsp salt

*=optional

Whisk all but the almonds together in a medium sized bowl. Add the almonds and stir, coating thoroughly. Spread them out in one layer on a lightly greased cookie sheet and put in a 200 F oven for about 2 hours. Take out and let them cool before you handle them.

I tend not to add the extra salt and really eyeball my measurements. Often I don't use as much as 1/4 cup tamari sauce. It depends. Sometimes I use more honey than I've stipulated, if I want them a bit sweet and tangy instead of just tangy.

Thanks, Beachcomber! This recipe has much less oil than mine did (why do roasted almonds need oil other than a little bit for that wonderful sesame flavor?) I am definitely going to try it and appreciate your sharing it with us.

I've been having trouble sleeping too. Mostly because of my back/hip pain being so bad. (it takes me 10 minutes to figure out how to roll over, and I'm constantly rolling over all night as my nursing 2 year old says, "Other side Mama!" :irked: )

Also I think I'm getting antsy. I cancelled my 7 year olds Spiral Scouts the other day. We talked about it, and she agreed to stop going for now and then pick it up next winter. I suddenly had the feeling like I had too many things on my plate. There are only 3 months left!! :dropjaw :yikes: :jumpers:

Ditto whoever sadi they're up at 5 to pee and that's it. Sometimes i actually put clothes on, go get the paper, read it and have cereal and I'm back in bed until 9 or later, assuming dd wakes at 7 and wants a cuddle. we sleep together then. With my husband's schedule being in 48 hour rotations, the nighttime routine has been rough. He's the let's go downstairs and watch a sesame street video and i'm three books and then we're lights out kinda thing. we need to be better organized, but i caught a cold (not taking vit c, bad girl!) and now he has it, so the time to reevaluate with clear heads is a few days away. I've also been really stressed with lots of little commitments on my plate but not clearly documented or tracked. Need to just make a good portable list i an move from day to day in my planner. I have a great daily planner, its called a spiegel daily planner from this pub house in oregon, and has lots of nice features. i gotta order it from them nowadays b/c office depot is gone from the cleveland market. make a list!
peace and sweet dreams, erin

I have done that a couple times too. Thankfully, I wake up just enough to notice my numb arm, roll over, and go back to sleep. I even managed to go pee and then go back to sleep!! That hardly ever happens, because the act of getting up really wakes me up.

have a good rest mama!!! :)

I must not be drinking enough or something.. I go to bed and hopefully sleep (or at least stay there) for 8-10 hours at night and dont have to get up to pee until I wake up in the morning. All said, I don't sleep that long. I still have a nursing toddler who won't let me. :crying
