I was reading through the homebirth supplies thread and saw some people mentioned cd's they are planning on having ready for the birth, so I thought I would throw the question out there to everyone. What kind of music are you planning on listening to?? I never got any together with dd, but I remember in my prenatal yoga class I really liked this tribal drum song she used to play that had some chanting in it. I think I would like to find something like that. I think maybe music would have helped me with labor but nothing went the way I thought it would so I felt totally unprepared.

We probably won't put anything together. DH and I spent a long time putting together a list of things that would be appropriate last time, and when my labor got going DH asked if I wanted any music. Aparently the look I gave him was along the lines of "Go take a flying leap" so no music. :LOL
Most of the music we chose was fairly quiet and "background" type music -- easy to tune out but possibly useful to mask distractions. Had we been in the hospital more than a few minutes before DD was born, I can imagine it would have been quite useful. The most annoying part of the hospital is that during the day they would use an intercom to find nurses. So from 8 am to 8 pm, there would be a constant stream of <cackle, cackle> "Suzie, please locate. Suzie, please locate." Had I been dealing with transition while that intercom was going, I would have wanted something to mask the sound. Or maybe DH would have taken a screw driver to the intercom's speaker. :mischief

This is something that's been on my mind - music for during labor. I have no idea what I'll be in the mood for, but I am compilling a mental list of relaxing and familiar music to have on hand. Some of my favorites are vocal pieces like Samuel Barber's Agnus Dei (the vocal rendition of his famous Adagio for Strings) and that album by Adiemus, called Songs of the Sanctuary.

I got a really great Birth Chants CD from attachmentscatalog.com (look in the blessingway category) It's great! I highly recommend it for the time leading up to labor too - I listen to it all the time right now and it's very powerful for me.
Last time I wanted music, etc all through labor up to the time I was ready to push - then I wanted total silence. Who knows what I'll want this time.

I listened to Indian tribal music last time I labored. There was something wonderful about the primitve sounds while I labored in my tub as labor itself is so primitive.

Probably nothing here. We'll be at home so if I feel like it we can pop on a CD but I doubt that's what I'll want. Last time I just wanted quiet. I told my mom and grandma to shut up when they were even talking. HAHAHA Nice huh?! :LOL
