Well, of course the best way to learn about it is to read the book: The Continuum Concept by Jean Liedloff is available from powells.com and other bookstores. The most important thing to know about it, IMO, is that it's not a parenting manual; it's more of a philosophical essay on how your way of life affects your experience.
The basic idea is that human beings are born with the expectation that we will be cared for and included in a family/tribe/society. Having these needs met gives us a feeling of rightness that causes us to behave well toward others. We learn what behaviors are socially acceptable by observing the example of and being guided by other people, and this process works best when it is based on the assumption that everyone naturally wants to do the right thing.
There are some articles on this Website (http://continuum-concept.org) but I highly recommend the book for a fuller and more understandable explanation of the concept. What's good about the site though is that it explains some specific examples using the concept.

Yeah, you've really got to read the book.
The good news is it is short and an easy read so even a mama with kiddos can usually manage it!
(I get my reading done in the bathroom and bedtime only LOL)

lizzo i would also say read the book. there are a lot of online articles on the book - some really not doing the cc any justice. they might actually turn u off rather than read the book and coming to a conclusion urself and then discussing it with others.

We suscribe to it here.. In a simple explaination. I bring my DD into my world rather than make hers the center.. What I mean is say rather than breaking from doing house hold chores to play with my DD with her toys in her toddler world I bring her next to me and have her interact in my world. So she pulls up a chair and helps me wash dishes instead. Also while I carried her a bunch as a newborn /infant or as long as she needed I didn't spend a lot of time speciffically paying attention dirrectly to her. Rather she became part of our world.
