View Full Version : I hate maternity pants!

Getting dressed for work every morning has become this ordeal, especially now that it's getting cool here.
Pants are the worst. Under-the-belly pants feel the most comfortable, but by the time I've walked 2 blocks they're starting to slide down, and they keep riding lower and lower as the day goes on. Over-the-belly pants feel dorky - my husband's name for them is Humpty Dumpty Pants. :) Plus, they irritate my skin, especially my belly button. Who decided that elastic going over skin that's stretched and itchy was a good idea?
I'd love to hear from anyone who has pants they actually like.

I have a pair of comfy www.babystyle.com Every Day Pants. They're nice. I got them on sale though for $16 in the summer. They're more expensive now. :( Otherwise, I'd get anohter pair.
I currently have two pairs of pants that fit me (plus one more only to wear to teach at my night class). The Baby STyle are the most comfy. My other pair should be a size larger at this point in pregnancy. It's crazy every pregnancy I go from medium pants to XL. And, it's mainly to accomodate my belly.

Lands End has some great, relatively inexpensive choices - especially if you check out their overstock/sale section. Best of all, they will hem them to the length you want, quickly, with no extra charge - which is great for short people like me! I just couldn't see spending $60+ for pants to wear for a few months. However although they say to order your pre-pregnancy size (just like everyone else does) I actually find that they are a little bigger, so one size smaller works better - and stops the sliding for the under-belly styles.

I just went and bought new jeans cause I HATED the under the belly ones. They just roll down everytime I sit. If I bend down my butt crack was hanging out. I was sooooo frustrated I was in tears so we went to the mall and dh was like "BUY NEW PANTS ALREADY!" HAHAHA So I got some jeans at motherhood ($40 bucks though, ouch!) They are the bigger belly jeans and yep, they are dorky but you cant see them under my shirt and I can walk, bend, sit without them falling off! LOL I have a maternity jean skirt from old navy that I love too. Its not under belly or over the belly, its like middle belly. LOL

Desiree, I think I have that same skirt from Old Navy, and I'm wearing it today! It's great, it doesn't bother my tummy skin but it doesn't fall off either. If I could just find pants that fit as well...

I know huh?! It's crazy that they dont make any comfy pants out there. I have some yoga type shorts that I live in at home but when I need to leave I dont want to be hiking my pants up every 2 seconds! HHAHAHAHA

Im hating them too! I find that the moment I come home I tend to strip off whatever im wearing and put on my 'uniform' (dh calls it) of either yoga pants (but they tend to fall off) or some elastic waist PJ bottoms, how dorky is that? Im embarrassed if anyone comes to the door :lol

I love the low-rise ones the best. I have two pairs of maternity jeans, two maternity skirts, and a bunch of skirts and one pair of jeans from pre-preg that still fit. The issue I have is that I need an XS but it is so hard to find that I have a bunch of smalls that are STILL too big at 26 weeks... I don't think they're ever going to fit!

I just had to add that maternity underwear suck, too!

My favorite are japanese weekend and my old navy. Both are thrift. I have one pair of new, and that was bought for me! Everything else I got consignment. I find consignment better anyway... lived-in tends to make it softer and easier to wear.
I have never, and will never buy or wear maternity underwear. I think it's completely pointless. Low-rise bikini style underwear does just as well. I've never had to buy new undies for pregnancy.

Agreed! I dont even wear underwear at this point cause they just tick me off (and roll down and get uncomfortable!) LOL You should see me trying to get out of my car in a skirt without flashing my crotch to the world. HAHAHAHA

Yesterday I bought a lifesaving pair of over-belly pants by Noppies Maternity. I can't believe how much I like these pants. They look like something I would wear in my "old life" - they have flair, they don't make me look like a cow AND they stay up AND they stretch without looking like sweatpants. However they were a little pricy. Whatever, totally worth regaining some physical self-esteem. All the underbelly pants were driving me bananas...Last pregnancy, I swore I would never wear over-bellies. Well, I am a convert.
I have to put in a bid for maternity underpants though. I'm so in love with my bikini bottoms from MimiMaternity...don't ride up, down or anywhere, you completely don't know they are there. Plus whenever you lose a few drops of urine on a sneeze...better than wearing nothing. (Ah, the joys of pregnancy).

That's so funny, because whenever I'm home I'm wearing a pair of elastic waist pj bottoms, too! They used to belong to dh, but I stole them at about 15 weeks when nothing else was comfortable. They are the only pair of pants I have now that don't fall off!

I haven't found any pants I like, but I LOVE my Old Navy maternity underwear. I buy the bikini style and I think they're great b/c they actually cover my arse completely with no riding up! Shoot, I have a hard time with that when I'm not pregnant and I don't even have a big butt. LOL

I've got some of those underbelly wide-band slacks. They do tend to slide down too far though (might fit better if I had a bigger belly). But I've been using a dress clip to cinch in the waist and it works great. Not sure if it's actually called a "dress clip" but it's basically a strip of elastic with clamps on both ends.

Hey, I know exactly what you're talking about... I wonder if I still have any from my early '90s dresses. Maybe I could do the same thing with a safety pin, or a Snappi!

I just bought a pair of jeans with the underbelly thing because the ones that go over were making me crazy! Mine slide down too, and I was also wondering if my belly isn't big enough yet. I'm going to have to look for one of those clip thingys. (Of course, by the time I find one, my belly may be big enough not to need it!)

I have found that the maternity pants with the elastic in back are not for me, they roll and pinch and make my life miserable. I really like the mid-belly style that has the wide thick elastic band. I bought a pair of maternity jeans at the dreaded wal-mart (my first clothing purchase there) and I really like them. I had a little late-night pant breakdown and they were the only place open. I really wish I could just walk around naked though. I take off my clothes as soon as I get home. A sports-bra and cotton undies.... heaven.
