I need ideas... I want to stock up on snacks for the homebirth both for me and for the support people. The midwives my doula and my husband of course. Anyway... DH and I want to labor mostly on our own so I want to have snacks for the rest of them to keep themselves busy and entertained. I am also going to have movies for them ready to go, magazines and the computer in case they want to check email/internet.
I am thinking tea, granola bars, nuts, soups, yogurts for them.... what else?
For me I'm thinking soups, juice, Gatorade, Popsicles, apple sauce ... what else?
I feel like I dont know what to do. Also we are getting a frozen lasagna so the midwives can eat if necessary.
What things did you have that you enjoyed the most or that the support people seemed to enjoy?

I had sandwich stuff and soup for everyone. I also had fruit and juice.
I mostly drank water and a little bit of juice and I ate pears during active labor. I remember them being soft and juicy. A highlight of my labor.

My friend made me homemade chicken noodle soup after my last birth. Yum. And my mom always does something to feed the midwives, which is nice cause it means I don't have to worry about it! Usually she just tosses something in the crockpot as labor begins (except the first, which I had at the birthing center).
For my friends birth she had sandwich stuff - cheese, meat, whole wheat bread, etc. and that was nice while we waited on the little one. Along with all different kinds of snacky stuff (healthy & junk lol). Then after he was born she had a frozen lasagna to go in the oven which her dad took care of.
I don't think we'll do anything special this time, mostly because of financial stuff (trying to finish paying for the birth right now, along with keeping up with bills!). Although if she doesn't come for two weeks I may be able to grab some extra stuff. Otherwise we'll have to go with what we have here already!

I just made some really amazing pineapple popsicles that I think might be my best friend during my coming labor. One cut-up pineapple, 1/3 c. milk, a little sugar if you need it. Put it all in the food processor, freeze it in popsicle molds. I can't stop thinking about them! Can't wait to hear more ideas, I've been wondering myself.

thanks for the ideas! i'd been planning to freeze grapes for myself, but i wasn't sure what else i might want for myself-- let alone anyone else! my parents are taking k during the birth and my dad will be preparing a big pot of his famous beef stew to bring over after the birth for me to eat! :throb
For me, I think I'll want fruit. I can't imagine wanting to eat a big meal, so I think fruit will help wet my mouth and lips and keep my tummy happy. So I'm going to have a fruit salad.
I'm craving turkey dinner, I think I'll make it on Tuesday. Then, we'll probably have lots of leftovers, if the baby comes this week. If not, I'll probably freeze some! So everyone can eat, and it won't be a big production to cook me something to eat afterwards.
You can always buy the ingredients to make chicken soup [or any soup] and toss them in the crock pot when labor starts [or have someone else do this ;)] and then everyone can have soup.
I know my great-great grandmother would make chicken soup for the new moms [especially those that had particularly rough births] back when she and her in-laws were the village midwives.

I once asked one of my midwife's assistants how she managed to stay awake for births, and she said "Lots and lots of coffee." So I would like to have some on hand for them, but I don't have a coffee maker.

Hypatia - not sure how much $$ is an issue, but if you wanted to you should be able to pick up a really basic coffee maker at a place like walmart or kmart for $10 or $12.

I provided cheese, whole grain crakers, lots of fruit choices and veggie pizza. Lots of watered down juice for me and herbal teas.

Soup/stew and sandwich fixings are a must, as well as fruits and veggies. With my 3rd I had a terrible craving for mashed potatoes--they were soo yummy and easy going down ;-)
