We will be having our first home birth this February, and we are planning on having dd there. I think we are doing a pretty good job of preparing dd, but her support person would like some more information on labor and birth. She has not had kids before and has never been at a birth either. She is looking for something (book or movie) that would give information on the stages of labor and birth so that she can be prepared if dd has questions or needs things explained. It does not need to be lots of info of pregnancy or super detailed more medicalish info. she just wants some basics, but more than the kid books dd has.

TIA

I'd rec'd the Birth Partner. :thumb It's a substantial book, but broken down well into easy to read parts. GREAT to have for any pregnant woman, too. :)

I agree with "Birth Partner" as a good recommendation. I think "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way" was also pretty good. Also, maybe "The Birth Book".

What books are you using for your child? I'm not pregnant yet, but planning a homebirth and would like DD to be there and if things go well she'll be about the same age as your little one.

I think the Birth Partner is pretty medical but that's just MHO. ;) I like Ina May's Guide to Childbirth because it portrays birth in a warm, cozy light. Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn by Penny Simkin is a good one and I like Gentle Birth Choices for waterbirth if you plan on that.

Good luck and hope your dd enjoys welcoming her new sib! :bouncy

What about Spiritual Midwifery? Lots and lots of birth stories, plus the technical bits in the back. I also really like HomeBirth, by Nicky Wesson.
