And I'm really disappointed. I know that's stupid but I really wanted to know this time. Why is everyone else able to find out and I never can? They said the baby's legs were shut tight. They also couldn't get a bunch of other measurements so I have to go back in two weeks. I am hoping they will be able to see it then.

Oh! :hugs I can imagine how disappointed you must feel...I know for sure if we hadn't been able to see I would have started crying right there on the exam table! I was THAT excited to find out this time! Maybe in a couple of weeks the baby will be in a better position to get the measurements and to let you get a good look. Did everything that they COULD see look good? No problems? (We have to go back for another one, too, because they couldn't get a good look at his heart since he was so wiggly and head-down and low.)

I vote girl.
I don't know why they give the legs closed excuse.
An ultrasound can do a cutdown of the body - so they can see not just penis/vulva but ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes etc. I think by 16 weeks.
My ultrasound tech at ds1's 16 week appointment cut through his body and showed me where the optic nerves and retinas were....
But the only way to say the sex 100% earlier on is the penis. If there's a penis its a boy and it could be between their legs with the cord wrapped around it a tech can still see it - if they can see the kidneys etc they can see a uterus....
but if the penis isn't fully formed yet (like 10-14 weeks) then a girl and a boy aren't that different looking sometimes.
I say either the ultrasound was a little old, the tech didn't want to say anything (they aren't suppose to tell you anything at all) - with ds2 I had to tell the tech we didn't care one way or the other we have a girl and a boy if its a girl great if its a boy great. But she wouldn't say its a boy she just said there's the penis.
I say call your doctor and ask what sex was listed on the report.

If there's a penis its a boy
:LOL
;)
This happened with my first u/s with Stella. We ended up going back at 23 weeks to get better pics of the heart and we were able to confirm GIRL.
I was so bummed at the time, so I feel you.

sometimes life shows you how little I know ;)
My bestfriend had a baby today.
Ultrasounds all said BOY....I boxed up baby boy clothes (had the dinky cars set to mail down too!) We aren't talking ONE ultrasound we are talking a few here - she had placenta previa so she was having many....
Well Ava was born at 3pm today in Az.
ALL GIRL!!!!
I am in shock shock!!!

The one old wives' tale that always worked for me was the heartbeat. My girls were always above 150 and the boys were lower. As for the u/s, I had a nice tech who suggested I lay on my left side for a few minutes while she went to do some paperwork. When she came back we had a good view.

My son's heart rate was in the 130s, my daughters was in the 140s. This one is in the 150s. I think its a girl. The pulse (acupressure) method says girl as does the ring over the belly. I am carrying exactly the same as with Olivia and all the same symptoms. She did get me to lay on my left side but it didn't work, baby was just too modest. :LOL I am really hoping that we'll be able to find out in 13 days.

Aw, I would have been really disappointed too. Hopefully your little one will be less shy at the next visit!

We weren't able to find out with dd for the same reason. I was disappointed, but then I just figured it was her decision to make (whether I could find out), not mine :down The heartbeat thing worked with her too. So did my gut instinct.
This time around, we're avoiding u/s and doppler, so I can't use either to find out.
