Hi all! My husband's mom lives in Doylestown and he would like to move closer to her in the next couple of years. We are not sure that we can afford it! Bucks County real estate seems so expensive. We would be willing to live one hour outside of D-town. Can anyone suggest some nice, affordable areas? We could be north (pretty rural, isn't it?) or on the Philly side.

I live around fifteen minutes outside of Doylestown. There are some areas in Hunterdon County, NJ that are somewhat affordable and in northern Bucks County. In general, though, the area is quite expensive. I'm not sure if the Easton and Allentown areas are too far for you, but these areas are somewhat affordable too.

Thanks for your reply! We were just in Doylestown over the holidays and I met a friend (from college, now living in NJ) in New Hope...that area is so nice! We would be willing to live in Allentown, Bethlehem, etc. I am assuming that some of the small cities in the area might be more affordable than the quaint little towns. Any other mamas out there NW of Philly? :Peace

Hey Lemama! I am a bit North of Allentown...and yes it is much cheaper here. As you get closer to the city (philly) it gets more and more $$. Souderton/telford/sellersville area is nice and not too terribly urban. My mom lives in Lafeyette Hill (subburb of philly) and is is so expensive to live there! If you come up this way and send your kids to public school, try to get someplace in the NW school district or in the Parkland S.D.. Allentown schools are not too great....altho we have a few really good private schools in the area. Bethlehem is very nice too, I have a lot of freinds who live there. While I would not live in the city, the subburbs are nice. Hope you have lots of luck finding what you are looking for! If you need any thing feel free to email me (put MDC in the subject line please) at Greatgravygoddes@aol.com .
I am not here as much as I used to be!
Good luck!
