Ok - here is what I am thinking.

1. Everyone get say....16 beads. From what I understand after calling the bead store here there's not really a good way to measure the hole size. Just get a kind of standard size bead - I think it will be ok. LOL When we all get our beads then we can get spacers or whatever else we might want to do if they aren't all quite the same size.

2. Print out 16 or so small pieces of paper saying a little about yourself and why you picked this bead as well as maybe some kind of blessing or a picture if you want.

3. Mail them to me by say...November 10. Is that enough time? PM me for my address whenever you are ready to send them. I'm thinking maybe each mama should include as many stamps as it took to get the beads to me so that I will just have to buy envelopes.

4. And I should be able to get them out very quickly after that. Can you tell I have no life outside my toddler? :LOL

Sounds like this will be really awesome! I think for the envelopes, you could just reuse the ones that we send the beads to you in. I know I will probably send mine in a padded envelope. I don't know how to calculate the number of stamps I'd need, I usually just go to the post office and have them charge me there!

Sounds good!!! I'm happy to send my info with or seperate. Either way.. There are little ziplock bags at Hobby Lobby that are a good size for the beads. I can probably include a couple of packs with my stuff so that each bead comes with the little slip of paper? Just an idea. Like, the info is on a businiess card sized slip and it's in with the bead, or if it's bigger, it's stapled to it.

I'll probably send a big envelope with a smaller one inside with paid postage. That makes since to me. jayayenay, that makes loads of since to me, since I don't have a printer!

This sounds like it's going to be pretty cool! I've never done anything like this before.. So, It'll be really neat to have beads from all over.. It might be funny if someone chooses the same bead!

Jana, I think that's a great idea and the only question I have is that if we send the beads and the papers separately then how will we know for sure which bead goes with which person? Or am I confused?

If we add a description of the bead, and why we chose it, I'm sure it will be pretty easy to distinguish, but then again, someone might choose beads that are the same or very similar, so I don't know!!

I'm sure we'll figure out which bead belongs to who!

Tara, we just have them in by Oct 20. Is that enough time? I need a week or so to get it done.. I don't have a car, and the bead store is far, so I have to work out a day on the bus.

I guess that is three weeks...but then we only have one week or something to do the gifts for the swap. That's a lot for me to do and remember. I handpaint beads so it'lltake me a couple of days to make mine anyway. Plus I had myheart set on doing this in November, like a November project ;) Then again, that is themonth of Thanksgiving, people travelingand whatnot. So, I dunno... I feel like some kind of party-pooper or something.

I don't think you're a party pooper either, Tara. It is a little close to the other swap. Well, I'm due late Jan too and also suspect I'll have a February baby. So really, later is just fine with me. I think that if we sent the beads by Nov. 20 even those due early January would still have enough time. I wonder what everyone else thinks?

Here is my totally unsolicited thinking. Why don't those who want to get it out of the way go ahead and send their beads now? And why don't we extend the deadline til November 10 so that everyone can participate? I should not have any trouble getting all the beads out before Thanksgiving so everyone has plenty of time to make their bracelets or necklaces or whatever. Once I have them I can get them out fast - I've already mentioned that I have no life. :D So send them now, send them later. We want everyone to play. So just PM me when you are ready to send them, be that this week or next month and we will just have them all sent by November 10 and I will get them back out quickly. Does that work for both the wanting to get it out of the way before the holidays folks and the need more time folks? I really hope so. I want this to work for everyone.

Hi all,

Sunnylady and I just had a PM chat about what size the beads should be. I was wondering since beads come in about a billion sizes. How about if we set a standard that it needs to be big enough to fit on a piece of standard hemp string (like the kind you buy in bead stores and craft stores to use in making knotwork jewellery).

What do you all think? That way we can buy ourselves some hemp for stringing our beads on and they'll be a good size to play with in our hands as we labour.

It should be fine, Jen. If there are people who have already bought fifteen beads, they shouldn't worry about it, but I haven't gotten any beads yet so I bet most people will be able to send 16. If there are a few who only have fifteen you just wouldn't get those, but you should get almost everyone's I would think. So that's 16 now!!!

Alrighty! I'm going to pick up the beads in the next few days and get them out. My Baby Shower is the 12th, and Family is coming in on the 11th, so I MUST get them out by the 10th.

Sad that some have had to drop out, but it's alright. You're still going to be there with everyone while they're pushing!! :love

I've updated who I've received beads from in the first post. I have really, really bad news...Jlse, you bead envelope had no beads in it when it got here and had a gap where it was pretty obvious the beads could have fallen out. :(
I am going out of town tomorrow and won't be back til Saturday. By then I should have all the beads and I will get them out on next Tuesday hopefully!! They're really great.

I'm not home - am visiting relatives in another state. I know I have extras as I purchased quite a few of that bead. I won't be able to get home and send them for another week though. If everyone wants to go ahead w/o mine if they are too late I'll understand. If it's ok I'll get them sent on Monday when I get back and I can send it priority. Please let me know what would be best and again I understand if it is getting too close and you need to go ahead. I found a baby shower thank-you note in my husband's car's glove compartment that was 2 years old. I was livid! So embarrased that it never got sent! It was for the mother of my husbands friend, whom I never even met, that was kind enough to MAKE my daughter a quilt, and she got no acknowledgement from us because he failed to send it! :irked:

I'm going to get more and send them overnight. My dad just sent me some stuff that got returned to him.. I haven't gotten them back, either.. All of these fiascos with the beads have gotten me worried. I wonder if they got lost?

We are still waiting on Greenie's beads. I don't know how much longer you all want me to wait - it's up to you all obviously. I did however get all the beads split up and in envelopes and addressed and stamped so everything is ready the day I get the beads or you say send them out. I could send out those who want theirs sent and wait for those who want to wait. Just let me know.

I have to make an apology and a change in how I did things. Many of you sent papers with your beads and I was going to tape the bead to the paper for everyone and I realized quickly that that was going to be way too much work. (Except I started that for Jen's - so yours is that way. LOL) All the beads are together is one ziploc bag and the papers are just in the envelope. So everyone will have to post what their beads look like so everyone knows. They're all pretty unique so I don't think it will be a problem. I hope that's ok!

So let me know if you want me to go ahead and send your beads or wait longer (especially our Canadian moms since those will take longer and I will do whatever each one of you wants!) Oh - and GreenMommy I need you to PM me your address!!! Thanks, ladies!

Okay. I sent more beads yesterday. I sent them priority, so they'll get there soon (I hope). I didn't have time to run off another sheet of the little papers, so I'll post my info here on the DDC.

I sent 14 beads, though. Do we put our own bead on the beacelet? Because I didn't keep one of my own. I just went to the store, picked up the coolest beads that I could find, and put them in the envelope. If it's possible, can you send me back one of my beads (I think I'm #14?) if there's one left. I want to put one of mine on my bracelet..
