My prescription prenatal vitamins are going to run out soon (Natafort) and I'm just wondering what eveyone else is taking if anything. I've read about these prenatal vitamins that are made from food and herb sources that you take several times day.....supposedly they are expensive but the body absorbs them better. I never got a name for them though, anyone heard of these?

Thanks for sharing :)

I take Shaklee vitamins without iron, and Floradix separately for the iron.

Shame on me, but I don't take anything. I just try my darndest to eat really good foods. I'm very forgetful, and they make me sick to boot, so I've never been a prenatal vitamin taker.

I take Natures Sunshine. Its what my mw sells, so its easy. Plus only 1 pill per day. I think some of them you have to take a few. I also take juice plus, my mw recommends it and I have a friend who is a freak about it. I dunno...I just take the chewables, they taste good! :)

. . .vitamins that are made from food and herb sources that you take several times day . . .

Haven't heard of any that are specifically prenatal, but my regular multi, Garden of Life Living Multi Optimal Women's Forumula ( http://www.thelivingspring.com/catalog/product-theParentId78-id30.html), sounds similar. Description taken from website:

Living Multi Optimal Women's Formula is a comprehensive whole food based vitamin and mineral supplement containing 7 fruits, 20 vegetables, 8 sea vegetables, 11 tonic mushrooms, 12 botanicals, and ionic minerals that supplies nutrients important for general health and well-being

You take 6 caplets a day (2 at each meal), and it is a little pricey, but I really believe in them. I take these every day, pregnant or not.

These may be the ones you are looking for:

BABY & ME DailyFoods(R) Vitamin, Mineral and Herbal Formula

The label says "100% Whole Foods" and the guy at the store told me exactly what you say above - that because the vitamins come from whole, natural foods and not synthetic extractions (or whatever, I don't have the terminology!), your body absorbs them better. You are supposed to take 6 per day, and the % Daily Value is lower per nutrient than in a standard mega-vitamin pill...but again, your body supposedly absorbs more (so needs less total dosage to pee out!).

I like these alot and agree with this point of view....However, I'm not good at taking pills and so have often just been reverting to the 1-pill type - Rainbow Light Prenatal One Multivitamin. Often I don't take a multi at all, and hope that my good nutrition makes up for it. However, I am also taking Fish Oils obsessively and consistently.

At least I can take vitamins now - I couldn't eat anything for so long and also couldn't take vitamins either. Yee Gads! How have I gained this belly despite all that? :)

Thank you ladies! I will look your suggestions up. :)

Also spiralmg, I'm wondering if you've found a fish oil capsule that you don't burp up later. I never liked that when I wasn't pg, and can't imagine it now that I am. :sick

I'm just taking regular old Centrum, b/c it's all I have. I was taking Whole Foods prenatals, but they were so hard to swallow and even caused a little puking. Yuck. So i switched to regular old Nature Made, but took 50% extra of those, then finished them and am taking Centrum.

But on top of that i'm taking extra vitamin E, vitamin C, iron, and Cal-Mag-Zinc tablets. I'm taking a lot of stuff, which is totally not like me. Oh, and flaxseed oil capsules, which i've heard are not such a great source of omega-3's, but i can't find any other good sources here!

I had been taking some, but they made me feel terrible. I'll have to look for some of the ones suggested above and see if they're better for me.

I was taking optinatal, which are fantastic, but I can't afford to special order them from another country anymore, and they do not appear to be available ANYWHERE here!! ARGH.

So now I take Sisu multi expecting, extra calcium, some organic molasses for iron and some yeast for b12.

spiralmg, I'm wondering if you've found a fish oil capsule that you don't burp up later.

The one I am taking is formulated by/made for my Homeopathic MD...It's called Mega Omega and I think the maker is Nutrceutical Source. It is refined Fish Oil with EPA 420mg and DHA 300mg. It was about $40 for 180 capsules, I'm supposed to take 4 a day. I don't burp it up much, though I do notice now and then but it isn't really bad like I have burped in the past. (If you want to get this my dr's website is http:/www.disease-reversal.com, Dr. Toni Bark

This seems really expensive to me, but I dont' know how others compare.
