Here are the stats - after 4 1/2 hours of labor, Aidan Thomas was born at 6:35AM on friday Sept. 30, weighing 6lbs 5oz, and stretching out to 19 1/4 inches (which, btw, is actually 1/4 inch longer than Liam was, although Liam weighed over a lb more). He is a tiny little guy, and Jim had to go out and buy a few preemie outfits for him! His apgars were 9 and 9, so for being a little early (36w5days) and small, he did great!
Although I was told that I was pissing myself the other day, I'm convinced it was really my water bag leaking, because when they checked me, My bag was gone!
Okay, so I woke up at 2AM thinking I had to poop. I got up to go, and realized that Liam was awake reading on the sofa. So, I put him back to bed, went to the bathroom, and kept getting cxn. After getting up and down a few times, at about 3:30AM, I decided to finish packing my bag, but while I did that, the cxn started coming hard every two minutes or so, so I woke up Jim and called my midwife, who sent me to the hospital , because I was two whole days shy of 37 weeks. I tried to call my mom, but no one would pick up. I knew if we waited any longer, we'd be having an unplanned UC, so we pakced up the kids and took off. by about 5:30AM, I was having cxn on top of each other and Rhiannon was crying everytime I moaned, which made the cxn hurt more (yet more evidence of how the psychological affects the physiological) - and Jim couldn't help us both at the same time. Sooooo. . .I "caved" and askedfor an epidural, because I felt like I wwas traumatizing Rhiannon. (Liam, btw, did great, which really suprised me). At first I felt like I was giving up and was disapointed in myself, but as soon as it kicked in, Rhiannon climed up in bed with me and was rubbing my head and hugging me, and I realized I had made the right decision. While the epi was getting put in, Jim finally got in touch with my mom, who showed up a few minutes later to take the kids.
As soon as they left, Jim realized that we hadn't packed extra batteries for the camera, and the ones in it died as soon as he turned it on. He was going to run to the corner to buy some more, but the nurse checked me and I was at 10cms already! soooo. . .we dont' have any pics until about 30 minutes after the birth. She had me do some "practice pushes," and he was about to crown, so she called the doctor in ASAP, as well as what seemed like half the hospital staff. Because he was technically preterm, they had to have the resp. team, a ped, and everyone and their brother in there to check him out. Also, because of this, he had to go straight to the warmer to be checked out by everyone before he could be given back to me. Anyhow, um, I wasn't pushing, but he decided to come anyway, and the nurse literally held her hand on his head while the doctor got his scrubs on - then he came out in one push - head, shoulders, everything. It was cool because I don't think the epi had even kicked all the way in, or maybe it had started to wear off (I didn't click for more meds or anything) - anyhow, I felt the last cxn pretty strongly, the urge to push, him crowning, everything! Oh, and no tear and no episiotomy!
So, they stole him off to the warmer and checked him out, which was really the most tramatic thing for me. I was really scared they were going to ruch him out of the room off to the NICU or something, but they brought him back pretty fast. His nose was flaring a bit, so they asked me to hold off nursing him for a bit because they thought he was trying to clear out fluids - but it was only abotu a half hour until I could nurse him.
So far, he is a mellow little guy who only cries when he gets his diaper changed (and only when it's poopy!) he's doing great on nursing and had plenty of wees and poos so far.
Big brother and sister are in love! they came back a few hours after he was born to visit him, and Rhiannon was loving all over him, being the little mommy. Liam was a little more standoffish, but really warmed up before we left.
I'm sure there are tons of typoes in this post, but there ya go! I'll make sure I get up some pics in the next few days.
