View Full Version : Help for pain?
I'm in the process of finding/visiting a chiro and thought I'd ask what your experience etc. has been. I'm dealing with 'symphisis pubis' basically the tendon that holds the pubic bone in place is stretching and causing the bone to separate causing *tons* of pain when walking, standing, etc. I just got a belly belt but it didn't seem to do anything - maybe I'm not using it right? I actually am not all that big yet - I'm comfortably wearing size 7 jean shorts (up a few sizes from prepreg.)
I can't seem to find too much out - although I've read that birth can cause further or permanent damage which scares me as I'm in so much pain already. I'm hoping that's pretty rare and only in extreme cases. I'm a little sad as I was able to exercise and swim - even the day ds was born, now it hurts to walk much and I get queasy from the pain making it difficult to eat.

I am sorry, I can't help at all. I wish I could. I just wanted to say I am sorry you are going through this. It sounds awful! I hope your work with chiropractor helps and maybe the shifts that occur as you get larger and get more relaxin will help.

I'm sorry you are going through that - it sounds awful! I've never experienced that, but I can tell you that I had a great experience with a chiropractor when I had problems with my lower back a few years ago. If I get any problems while pregnant I won't hesitate to go back to him. I hope you also find a good chiro and get some relief soon!

I started getting SI joint pain when I was about 8 weeks pregnant this time. The only way I can manage it, is weekly sessions with the chiropractor. I'm also taking fish oil (when I can rememember) and basically trying to take it easy. Its not fun. When I feel relativly good, I want to DO things... yet only 5 minutes into doing something, the pain comes back in full force. If it wasn't for the chiropractor though, I wouldn't be walking at all.
I understand your pain mama. :hug I live it every day too.
I do believe that my last birth is what has caused this pregnancy to be so rough. I had extreem pain when I birthed in my pelvic bones, and my tailbone made the loudest pop you can imagine. I've never been the same since.

I go to a chiro and love it - since about 1.5 months ago when I could no longer sleep on my hips and had trouble walking. It really helped - no more hip or back pain.

My pubic bone gets very sensitive to pressure when it's off, although nothing what you're describing. :hug
At my last chiro appointment, she adjusted it and it's been perfect for a week now. I so highly recommend chiro care for so many things, especially pregnancy woes!

Jumping in here from Dec. You sound like you are going through the same thing as I am. You didn't even realize you could bear pain like that all the time did you? It is excrutiating :( Luckily for me my dh is a chiro and if I do not get adjusted every day I can barely walk. I know that is not reasonable for everyone but even going to the chiro at all will help tremendously.
I just found this website/forum last night. I will warn you it scared me a bit to see how bad this pelvic dysfunction can get, but it had some good info. Also, my dh is going to order me some sort of special brace to try and help? pm me if you want more info. I can ask him about it. Good luck :)

WitchyMama,
Why or how does taking fish oil help with S-I pain?
How much are you taking? What kind?
I have that and am in physio for it but haven't heard about the fish oil being a benefit. But at this point I'll do anything to improve the situation. I've also had the S-I problem since about week 8. It's driving me crazy.

I've had this problem with my last preg. and now again with this one :( . Chiropractics have really, really helped! The adjustment he does is one that my dh can actually do at home, so I can get relief in between visits. It's very easy to do.....basically you lie on your back with your knees bent and another person holds pressure on the outside of your knees while you try pulling them apart. Then the position is reversed and the other person hold the insides of your knees while you push them together. I can't remember how many times I've felt it "pop" back into place and the relief is almost instantaneous :D ! HTH!

I've had this constantly since my fourth month. I referred to it as the "Stabbing Crotch Pain". It's a real treat isn't it?
The worst is rolling over in bed, or activities like using my feet to take my shoes off. Going down stairs has become a terrifying event because I know it's going to cause huge pain.
Swimming is a real relief for it. Not the side kick obviously, but just kicking up and down the pool with a paddle board. That helps. I also find that if I keep moving and don't settle in for hours at a time in the same position on the couch or when I'm working that helps too. Going from inactivity to activity (such as after a long car ride) is just killer!
I haven't gone to physio or chiro as from what I can tell it offered short term relief - I've been using the exercise Mama0002 suggested and that works well too.

anyone heard of this?

Thanks for all the info! I just had my 4th visit to the Chiro. this morning - I feel sooo much better. It's not gone but manageable and I'm searching for an affordable pool to swim in now. I swam nearly everyday while pg with ds but that one is now closed so I haven't been able to do that. I did give up ballet - figured I would wait until after the babe was out to start that again. Thankfully I'm able to walk my 2 miles again and pick up ds for short periods.
Oh and if nothing else the therapy tables at the Chiro are soooo relaxing and wonderful! It makes getting up at 6a.m. to go and start my day with that much nicer!

I am suffering with SPD too :( How strange that I've never even heard of this and we have so many here in this thread with it!
I talked with "the woman" to go to in my town for this disorder. She said that post-partum she can help me pop it back into place, but while prenant there isn't much to do. She told me how to pop it back into place myself, but that it won't last long because everything is stretched out so much right now. I haven't been able to pop it back in by myself anyway.
I'm sorry you all are in the same boat with my. It sucks really bad.

Here is a good link to read about SPD http://www.plus-size-pregnancy.org/pubicpain.htm
It gives some good suggestions on how to minimize the pain.
