Let me just again state how sad I am that I was not able to have a midwife with this pregnancy.....that should help explain why I am SOOOO upset right now!
So first off I had my 37 week check up today....I was being tested for Strep B so the nurse immediately gets me to change into a beautiful barely covers you gown and I wait for the doctor.
However instead of my doctor in walks a student. :irked: I realize they have to learn but this is my fourth student this pregnancy. So he starts interviewing me and asking a million questions...allot of them pretty personal like "how are you and your husband getting along?", "Any stress at home?", "Financial stress?" and the rest of them questions he could have got answers for by reading my chart.... had he reviewed it. So just annoying.

However he was personable and a bit nervous so whatever.....

I was just relieved because he told me he would NOT be doing the Strep swab.
Then he starts the exam...now I am not wearing anything on the lower half and he wants to measure my uterus and check the babies position....lovely. Let the old whooo-ooo just hang out there and get some air....totally relaxing!

Then he gets the dr. brings him in and tells him my life history that he just spent 20 mins asking me about....stuff the DR and I already know.

Then it is time for the fun part...the swab!
Now I was prepared....I put garlic in last night (haha!) to try and sway the results of the test, wiped the area well before getting on the table with some baby wipes I brought with me and spread them for the STUDENT DOCTOR! That's right I got a running commentary from my doctor as he explained how to perform the procedure!

Then I get to get dressed.

ONLY to hear my doctor tell the student that even if the test comes back negative that I will STILL be treated like I have Step B during labor because I tested positive with it in my first pregnancy!

SO WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE TEST?? :hopmad :censored To give me hope then dash it? or do you just like to see women up there with their legs spread.....or more likely so that you can charge more for the appointment? :angry
There was absolutely NO point in that swab! Regardless of the results they are going to try and force antibiotics.
I was going to wait till I got those results back to argue with the doctor as to whether or not I will get antibiotics during labor....in case I was lucky enough to get a negative....but instead I guess I will just have to fight. Here I am eating live yogurt, taking acidophilis and bifidus and shoving garlic up me in HOPES of getting a negative and it won't matter none!!! Just frustrating!

how frustrating. we don't treat moms that are negative unless they had a baby that had group B strep complications. i would fight them on it. you have a right to not have antibiotics if you test negative. you probably have that right if you are positive, but they would be more likely to push it.

good luck. hope you get that negative and that you can keep them for making you have antibiotics. :hugs

Im not sure if its different since you're up north, but i know here i have the right to refuse the antibiotics and just have to sign a waiver that basically tries to terrify me out of making that choice! It sounds like your doc should not have even had the test done if that was the approach he was going to take. Maybe he decided to use it as a lovely 'teaching experience' even though he knew it wouldnt matter? Ughh, how frustrating for you. Im so sorry you're going through this. As if you need one more thing to add to the stress of a pregnancy (((hugs)))
