I am so embarassed right now. I just had to call my DS's friends mom to come get him because my DS was behaving awful! For some reason he got it in his head that a plastic penny (of all things!!) that his friend had with him when he came over was his. He ended up swinging his bedroom door into the little boys back as he was going through it. Then DS was convinced that his friend was going to take a toy home with him and locked him out of the playroom. He was just being nasty. I made him apologize and give the boy hugs, but then he would just be nasty again. I tried some more structured activities. We did an art project that I supervised and they did fine. Then they ran off to play hide and seek and it ended with my son being mean again. Then when I tried to get him to talk to his friends he tried to leave the house and then tried to hit me. His friend was crying when his mom pickled him up. DS was having a screaming tantrum on the floor because he wanted his friend to stay. I can't figure out what is going on here. DS loves this friend and was so excited for him to come over. He has never behaved this way to a friend before. The poor little kid did nothing to provoke DS.
He is currently playing by himself and acting like nothing happened.

I am not sure how I should handle this. We are supposed to go to playgroup with this friend tommorow.

How old is your ds?
We've seen this kind of behavior in dd. Mostly around 3-4 years old.....
Things are better now, but still not perfect! As you observed, keeping the kids occupied in structured activities helps a bunch.

Maybe ds is just not feeling well? Sometimes when dd acts super cranky, and I just can't figure out WHY???, the next day she comes down with a cold....

Hugs, mama!

Silly me! DS is 3 and as it turned out he was really tired. He slept nearly 13 hours that night and woke up his bright and cheery self. I think I have been overscheduling him. It is funny what 3 yo will do to get a plastic penny! :wink
