DD is 12 months. She is the sweetest child except when it comes to shaking the bird's cage! Dh and I try to reirect her, but she comes obsessed with it. We will bring her into another room and she will go right back out there. When we move her away from it she starts to kick and scream.

Our bird is in the living room on a stand. There is no other place in our house to move him to. We have thought that over and dd plays in all the rooms. We can't put the bird on a counter because then the cats can get to him. We can't hng the cage from the ceiling because the cage is too heavy.

We can not let dd shake the cage because we are afraid that the bird will get too stresses AND it the bird could actually do damahe to her finger.

Please give me some ideas!

thanks

What about building a shelf wide enough to safely hold the cage? Mount it high enough that the cats can't get to it.

At 12 months she is really too young to understand so I think the only thing to do is move the cage out of reach.

Hello!!!

I think there is only one way out. You should move the cage. I agree she is young and couldn't understand yet. Get it out of harm's way!!! :o

I'm not sure what to tell you, perhaps post in the pets forum as well so those versed in cages may have some ideas.

I think your best bet given her age is to move the cage somehow. She's really to young to get the idea that his is harmful to the bird. It falls to you then to protect the bird. Is there another area of the house that you could gate off? Even if it's a corner where the cage can go and then just put the gate in front of it?

I agree with PP- the bird needs to be protected and then you can let your daughter work on appropriate 12 month stuff. It is asking too much to leave the bird alone- just too much fun making everyone crazy.
