my mother watches after my brothers 4 kids a few afternoons a week. Once I called and I heard my mother say just a minute some cries and then silence. When I asked she said Oh I had to put the baby (16 months at the time) in the crib so we could finish our conversation without hearing her cry. :( She'd stuck her in a playpen and closed the door. :irked: I told her to go pick her up and call me latter.

Seriously. That was awful. I'm really of the mind that spanking is more to let the parent give off some steam than for the child's benefit. No matter what anyone says about lessons, manners, and responsibility.
