Hi All,

Haven't been around these parts for a while since my dd is no longer 2. :LOL

I am be no means a veteran mom, having only a 3 yo and an infant, but I wan thinking today about all the malarkey thrown around out there in the world about discipline and I wanted to share what I've gleaned lately.

1. It takes less energy in the long run to be nice to my kids than to be mean to them.

2. Kids treated with kindness tend to behave better than kids treated with contempt.

3. The most common cause of child "misbehavior" is growing up.

4. Other common causes of misbehavior include shopping malls, TV, advertising, hunger, and tiredness.

5. Other people's stress is hard on little ones, so are transitions.

6. It's not kids' fault that we live in a crazy world.

5. The idea that kids only misbehave to manipulate their parents is pretty darn narcissistic. Ditto the idea that parents can have "control" over what kids do.

I've had my share of tough times discipline-wise, but it's come and gone enough that I've gained faith.

Hey Mom of Shmoo!

Congrats on the birth of Shmoo 2. It's lovely to see you and lovlier still that you popped in to share some wisdom. I agree wholeheartedly with all of your points and have been learning all these lessons over again lately, in FULL volume and picture here in DS's fifth year.

Thanks,
Em
