My approach is just like the pp. I know exactly (within three days) when we conceived because I chart my cycles and DH travels a lot for work. But, I also knew with the last two pgs and the children both came 1-2 weeks after accurate due dates. I think expecting the child within a 3-4 week window makes a lot of sense and decreases the stress at the end of the pg related to when the baby will born.

Earlier ultrasounds are far better at predicting EDD and I'm surprised a doc would actually change an EDD based on a 20 week u/s (although they do it all the time...).

I would try to keep your doc on the 1/7 EDD because that will buy you some time before they start pressuring you to induce.

My brother was "overdue" based on a late u/s in 1982. They induced and when he was born they decided based on some typical age markers that he was actually only about 38 weeks. At full term, he would have been just a big, healthy baby. Babies born even a few weeks earlier than they're ready can have very difficult labors when Mom's body isn't ready and the babies can have rough starts because they're lungs aren't quite ready.

That said, even if you keep the 7th as your date, only about 4% of babies are born on their EDD. A 4 week range for spontaeous onset of labor is a great idea.

I've had pretty good luck with my babies coming around their due dates. My first came only 3 days "late" (what a long 3 days that was!) and my 2nd came exactly on her due date. (one of the lucky 4%!)

I had an early ultrasound which changed my due date from Jan 6th to Jan 12th. Only six days difference, but the tech was pretty sure those 6 days were important! :LOL

I'm saying the end of January-to myself and everybody else.

My kids never knew their own EDD anyway: my son came at 43 weeks (the midwife broke my water) and my daughter at 41 (ahem-my hubby broke my water-if you know what I mean!).

So, I'm gonna be prepared after the first week in January and not disappointed :wink if this babe waits until the end!
