This is a very minor issue, but I'm curious about how others might react in the same situation.

Would you aim to have baby #2 six months earlier than you think is ideal in order to get a paid leave (which isn't very big... it's $6 700 Canadian, which helps since we're not exactly loaded, to say the least)? We've decided that for us, we'd prefer to have baby #2 when Simon is 3.5 to 4 years old (he's 18 months old now). It seems easier for everyone that way. But then I found out that my scholarship will give paid leave. In order to get this, I'd have to have #2 when Simon is about 3. I know that his personality matters in this equation too. So far he is not loving me giving the least bit of attention to another child. Yesterday he got quite upset when I held the 4 month old of a friend. It seems that we'll try earlier to get the money (it's not as if we're having a child for $6 700!!! Just bumping it up a bit), though I don't know that when the time comes to try to conceive that I'll be feeling up to it. I'm very protective about my nursing relationship with Simon. He isn't a good eater, at all, and nursing means so much to him.

If you're already planning #2 to come a relatively short time later, I can't imagine 6 months really being that big of a difference in the scheme of things. It's always nice to have a paid leave. I never got one and it was hard, it made me decide to go back to work early because I couldn't afford it. So if you are already planning this anyway, than I say go for it. You've got, what, 9 months to figure it out? Well, I guess you might start now, I mean what if it takes you a little longer than expected to get pregnant? Sometimes it can take 9 months! I know you'll figure it out :hugs

I think you'll get more feedback from Family Planning, so I'm moving this over there. Good luck in your decision!
