View Full Version : have you bought anything for this baby?

I still haven't...not one thing. I am starting to feel superstitious about it now. Like if I do, then something will happen. How silly. I am ready and have the money to go ahead and buy diapers (those, a sling, socks, and mama cloth for PP are all I need this time) and I'm feeling like somehow it's still too early to buy them. I'm just being weird, I guess. Can anyone sympathize or has everyone already starting preparing a lot?

I'm 29 weeks and have bought:
-dozen infant prefolds (to replace old/lost ones- we have a bunch already)
-9 onesies and 2 pairs of pants
-one pair of robeez booties
-a fleece sling
-hemp PP pads.

I still need to get:
-birth supplies (pool and hose, plastic pad for mattress, puppy pads, a food processor for placenta, and a fish scale)
-hats and socks for the baby (we managed to lose all of them from my son's babyhood)
-a new convertible carseat (but that's not a priority as we have an infant carseat).

I've just been picking up good deals, the dozen prefolds were $5 on Ebay, the clothes were from an Old Navy sale, I saw the Robeez booties for $19.99 while looking for new Robeez for my toddler, got the sling for $20 at a LLL silent auction, etc.

I've never been one to buy before say 6-8 weeks prior to my due date. But I did pick up one very cute little lavendar newborn sleeper :). And I bought a pattern for a baby bunting. And I have fleece galore at home. We'll see if I sew it up.

I've bought

diapers (3dozen infant a 12 preemie prefolds, 9 fitteds, 5 PUL covers)
I've knit 1 pair of longies for this baby so far

I guess that's it, lol. I still need some newborn clothes. I gave away all of dd's (she's only 17 months) because I thought we were done. Thankfully I have a convertible carseat already, as long as Kylie meets the requirements for the 5 point I have. I still need birthing supplies as well.

I got a little potty for the babe, but that's all so far. Everything else has been a gift, primarily from excited grandmothers, lol. :)

I'm supersticious (andhavinghelp typing, pardon typos...) Idon't get anything out forthe baby until I'm 35 or 36 weeks.

I bought five newborn diapers froma friend because I was afraid if I didn't get them right then, she'd give them to someone else. I bought a sling but I use it for other babies (like at church), so it'snot a "just for this baby" gift. My kids have a matching one too :) Watermelon print, very cool. I go to the store and really want to buy stuff for the baby, but I can'tbring myself to do it. I'llbe ordering a birth kit in two weeks though, does that count? ;)

I've gotten from Freecycle:

3 dozen organic hemp prefolds and liners
1 plastic bucket for diapers
2 wool covers
0-3 month size outfits and pj's, all of them are in MINT condition and so cute!

I've bought myself:

2 packages of Old Navy baby socks (on sale!)
1 fuzzy soft pink blanket (Its always the first thing I buy. A special blanket :love )

I still need to get:

A convertible carseat or a baby bucket. I really want to get another Britax Marathon but I'm not sure we'll be able to afford it in time, so we might have to get the bucket for now. :irked:

A fleece snuggly cover for whichever seat we choose, or a bunting. Haven't decided yet.

A double stroller.

I don't need a thing at all, but I did indulge in one new pair of Robeez slippers, the little leather ones lined with shearling. We've never had a winter babe and we love the rest of the year version of these leather shoes. That's it!! Other than that, I'll sew a new change pad cover, as the one that's been through both girls is just showing some good wear now. Oh, I also bought a very cute bright red winter bunting on ebay. :)

Assuming the u/s is right and we are having another girl, we don't really need anything except and new pad for the changing table. Actually, we won't be using that changing table this time as we have a new house that we built and we made a "changing space" in the bathroom. But, I do need a contoured pad.

However, I did buy a very adorable sweater/hat set that was sooooo cute. I have also bought one new sleeper. If we were having a boy I would have had fun with the summer clearance. Even if the u/s is wrong and a boy is coming, most of our early stuff is gender neutral.

I want to get some new robeez--I didn't know they came in a lined version! I had some fabulous fleece booties with Kayla that we literally wore out and tried to order some more but the web site no longer exists so I guess that WAHM decided to call it quits. Darn, I LOVED those booties!

I still plan on getting a mesh sling for summer. I still need to order my birth supplies (my midwife has an account with some company and we order the package online--seems to be much cheaper than other people--$38.)

I also clicked on the link to baby legs and those keep creeping up in my mind. I think I might have to get a set. I hate putting tights on baby girls (rarely do it) because of the inconvenience with diaper changes, not to mention they just don't seem to be comfy and some will slide right back down when on a nylon pant. However, I like to put cute (not scratchy) dresses on them and if it is cool out I want something on their legs. This might be a good solution for me.

I have no problem buying before the baby is born, but lately I keep thinking the u/s may have missed something. I keep thinking this is a boy so now I am hesitant to purchase anything gender specific. (This is probaby a case of the crazies, but I am carrying so different from my last two and I am cold this time and never was with my girls.)

I have bought a few things, but mainly clothes, socks, and a couple of toys on sale. Been given quite a few things as well. I don't feel superstitious about things babywise. I'll knock on wood and I'm doing the Old/New/Borrowed/Blue thing. I'm superstitious about little things.

A baby is a little thing, but it's a big thing. :D

I've bought quite a lot of stuff. I have most of the clothes we'll need for the first 6 months, bouncy seat, toys, etc. I also made some diapers and a pouch. I hit all the garage sales this summer since that's when all the good ones are, and I guess I've just been a little bored being home instead of working so I've been sewing like mad!

I've bought a few sleepers and onesies, socks, my newborn CD stash, and a few birth supplies. I just want to get it all done before I have to start shopping for the holidays!

Cloth diapers - http://www.littlesproutsdiapers.com/diapering_packages.htm

And my mom yelled at me for buying those, saying I should wait until after the shower to buy anything - she is such a domineering b*&%$ sometimes. HELLO!?!?! This is my baby, I will purchase what I damn well please. Besides, if life has taught me ANYTHING, it is not to depend on ANYONE, especially for things you can do yourself. I need to stock up on diapes while I have the $$$ to do so, because lets face it... most people wouldn't BUY cloth diapers. I told my grandma today, and she thought it was GREAT that I am cd-ing. She had 4 boys in diapers at once, and used CD on ALL of them!!! Way to go granny!!!

I have painted his nursery, and this weekend I will buy the border for the walls in his room. my friends have given me lots of second-hand stuff as well, everything from cribs to furniture to clothes, and for that I am truly grateful. I think I will wait until after the shower before making any more purchases though.

We've bought some clothes (we'll need to get more!):

2 fuzzy footie sleepers
2 long sleeved onesies
1 organic cotton set of 'long johns'
1 organic cotton shirt and pants (with ladybugs)
2 fleece blankets
2 fuzzy hats

Then there are the sort-of clothing things:
cloth diapers with liners and rubber pants
receiving blankets
terry cloth wipes
drool bibs

Yesterday we put together her Amby Hammock (http://www.disparatealliance.com/blog/media/1/Carys___Stuff_002.jpg)
We also have a car seat
My sister sent us a jogging stroller and a baby back pack
And I bought a sling

I'm making great progress. I'm ordering a beautiful Haba rug for the baby's room today!
I have received so many cute clothes from my parents and sisters...pretty much set on the clothes front! Need a few sleepers, socks, a wool one-piece and hat for delivery, but thats about it!
I need diapers. Possibly a new carseat, we'll have to see the condition of the old one. Also, a dresser. Other than that, I'm set!
We are putting the crib in the baby's room(which she will use only for naps while I homeschool), I've bought the bedding, shades, just need a light fixture.
I am buying the baby a beautiful blanket for Christmas, so that isn't here yet. I need to get a New Native Sling.
Time is flying, but I think I'm doing pretty good.
