In the past two weeks the baby has really picked up in her movements. I'm usually too busy during the day ( I also have a 4 yr old) to notice the babe moving.

As soon as I sit down or go to bed I feel the baby really move a lot.

Soma babies are lazy, some hyperactive. Mine goes through a strech of days where he moves CONSTANTLY, then a few where he doesn't seem to twitch for more than a moment.

Every baby is different. If you feel concerned, talk to your Dr/Midwife/Doula!

I'm 24 weeks too and I've finally had to tell myself to stop freaking out about the baby's movements. As the pp's have said, he has active days and lazy days. Sometimes I won't feel him move for 5 hours or more and other times he keeps me awake because he won't be still! Oh, my friend said that whenever she would worry about her baby she'd drink some cold Coca Cola and that would get him kickin'. I haven't tried it myself, but if I'm ever really worried I'd give it a go.

I've gotten the impression somewhere that you feel subsequent babies move more than your first. Not sure if that is true. But I'm on my second blessing and I think this one moves a lot more than the first. I am 26 weeks today. At any rate, the two babies moved different amounts - a normal variance between babies, or you feel the second one more, and you are on your first.

-Oops, I guess I just assumed you are on your first, maybe you are not.

Take care,
Tracy

My babe is very mellow, I think. None of his movements have been very strong, just lil bumps here and there, only occasionally enough to make me go "Oof!" And he goes long stretches without moving very much, and sometimes he moves off and on the whole day. I wouldn't worry too much.

kittywilbur-- Hi, and welcome to our boards! You may just not be feeling movements because the baby is active while you are, etc. Because of a condition I have, my Dr. wants me to do kick counts. She advised doing them after 28 weeks, but I found I could keep track of this baby reliably before then. Basically, look at a clock and see what time it is. Then lie on your side or rest back in a chair (I lay on my back and get good results this way) and just focus on feeling the baby. Then, count the kicks and movements. Any movement counts (not hiccups-- rhymthic thumps in the same area )-- soft or hard, quick or slow. If your baby kicks 10 times within 2 hours, s/he is fine! I find this activity fun, because I concentrate on just the baby and he moves more than I think he does. If the baby doesn't move within 30 min., he may be asleep-- try juice to get him going again (this doesn't always work with my babe-- he LOVES hamburgers, though!!!)

Don't worry too much, though. I know I work myself up when I don't feel baby ( sometimes he has active days followed by "sleeping days) and am always afraid that he isn't well. he usually pays me back for that worry by kicking me LOTS and HARD the next day(s)!!!! :D
Wugmama-- Ooh.. I hope that isn't true! This babe kicks LOTS and I feel it so much!!!

My baby goes through active spurts when I feel lots of movement, and then will chill out for a relatively long period of time. I also don't feel much of anything when I'm up and active, which accounts for a whole lot of my day. I wouldn't worry about it too much (easier said than done, I know.) Some babies just aren't that active. Good luck!

I'm 27 1/2 weeks now and within the last week or so, I've noticed more (and bigger) movements; the babyy moved a good amount before too, but has definately picked up within the last week. I think that my first actually moved around a lot more than this one, but I could just be too busy chasing him around to notice otherwise. :bouncy

I'm 26 weeks and some change. My baby's been dancing around, living up to her nickname since about 12 weeks. Kicking, rolling, dancing, squirming, all kinds of stuff. Definate periods of sleep and wake now. She's very considerate too -- my boys loved to start dance time when I'd stop movnig. This one seems to enjoy sleeping when I sleep :)

This one seems to enjoy sleeping when I sleep. I hope this lasts for you!! Can you imagine?! A baby who SLEEPS?! :D (Can you tell what kind of sleeper DD is?)

Anyway, like the PPs said, babies do have sleep and awake times and some are more mellow than others. But also, the placement of your placenta has alot to do with how much movement you feel. My SIL had a very anterior placenta and a very mellow baby and said she almost never felt her daughter moving. It freaked out her mom and her doc but she had a great pregnancy, OK birth, and a very sweet and healthy baby...

this is my fourth child and i worry so much probably because i lost my first baby at full term and the thing was i thought she hadnt been moving very much so i went to the hospital and her heart tones were really low so they did a c-section and she passed away 3 weeks later from a diaphragmatic hernia. so yeah sometimes i think about that and how this baby is moving. i think i figured it out though, i havnt been drinking very much water these last few days and i dont drink anything else except juice and milk and i havnt been drinking much of that either, well last night i drank 3 huge glasses of water and man she got active big time and more than i had ever felt before. it was awsome. so i am asuming that i was dehydrated or something. thanks so much for replying :love

I'm gonna echo the sentiments here... I was the same way - this is my first baby, and his movements vary from one day to the next. THroughout the day, I can feel him off and on. When I lay down for the night I can feel much more movement. I try everything to get this kid to move, cold beverages, sweets, laying on my left side, etc.... he's stubborn like daddy & I though and he moves when he feels like it and no other time. Sometimes he'll kick a strange spot and I will cry out, but usually he's very gentle. I think he rolls a lot because sometimes I get this feeling that my whole tummy is just turning inside out - like when you're ona roller coaster or something. My doc said not to be too concerned or even do kick counts until at least 32 weeks, so I feel a lot better. Actually, these message boards I have found, along with co-workers who have kids, have been my greatest resource during pregnancy. Everyone has a different story to tell, as each pregnancy is different, and it has given me so much info to go on.

My baby didn't really start moving until about 26 or 27 weeks. I was worried, too, but my MW pointed out that you don't really start to feel it until space in your uterus gets more cramped for the baby. Now I'm at 29 weeks and she's moving a lot.
