I have a little Problem with my Midwife, when I ask her about who is going to back up her, when she is sick or something like that, who is going to come and help me. She said ," do you want me to be sick?, I never missed a birth, once I had 3 birth in 24 hours....

Somtime I don`t know if it`s my english thats so bad, and nobody really understands what I want to say.
I don`t want her to be sick, i just need to be sure that somebody is there. Who ist alert if problems happend.

I already had one awful hospital birth. And having one child with a heart defect. Also I have strep b infection. I want a Midwife there. I don`t need her to have dr. back up, but at least another midwife.

Thats normal isn`t it? or could there be a misunderstanding?

Gudrun,

Your concern is entirely understandable. I would want to know WHO was going to be at my birth, and your midwife cannot absolutely guarantee that she will be there. Does she not have anyone else?Is the hospital her backup? Will she be honest with you?

Keep asking until you get an answer you feel is honest, and then perhaps you can have a discussion about the "what ifs" of labor and birth.

Good luck

maybe you should phrase it differntly, like.. "When do I get to meet your back up midwife? Does she come to the home visit, or should i call to make a seperate appointment" Or soemthing like that. I think it's a bit strnge she reacted like that??? She should defintly ahve aback up, and you have right to be concerned.
