I need advice! Please help! I am on day 19 of lexapro and I always feel like I am on a boat rocking away. Shouldn't this side effect be gone by now? I am losing hope. If I stop lexapro and go on another ssri, what are the chances that one will work? The lexapro has done good things for my anxiety, but I can't live with the rocking boat side effect. I am very discouraged......I hope I am not so med sensitive that I can't take something to help. Please give some advice as to whether I should give up or keep going.
Thanks!

Sorry you're feeling that way. I don't know about that side effect from ssri's but lexapro always worked for me when others didn't or stopped working (Paxil, Zoloft). Don't give up hope. The chances are good that one *will* work for you! It sometimes takes a while to find the right one. Your anxiety is gone and that's one plus (for now anyway). Ask your dr. - maybe he has a better suggestion for you.

I remember the "rocking boat" sensation well, and that is a good way to describe it by the way. I don't remember exactly when it went away, but you have been taking it less than 3 weeks and it has helped in some aspects. I would defintitely give it a few more weeks before trying something else. Lexapro worked well for me, I took it for a year and began tapering my dosage in July and have been totally off of it for 6 weeks.

thank you ani's mama for replying, I needed to hear something positive today. Did you have that "rocking" sensation for a long time? Some days I think I just won't be able to stand one more minute of it. But I want it to work so bad to get my family and me back to the way we were!
Thanks!

If memory serves it was a month before my body adjusted and I no longer had side noticable side effects. Besides feeling as if I was at sea, I was sweating much more than usual without exerting myself. That too went away after the first few weeks. Those were my two main side effects. I had a couple of restless nights in the beginning, but I think that was paranoia because insomnia was listed as a side effect(gotta love that obsessivenes that sometimes accompanies anxiety, don't ya ;) ) I don't know about you, but thankfully I didn't feel the rocking when I was sitting still or lying down. It was when I was up and moving around. Annoying none the less, but at least I could lay down and rest and feel ok. I'm glad things are beginning to look up for you and hope that you feel as if you are firmly planted on dry ground soon! Take care,

I am now on day 24 of lexapro and the dizziness seems to be getting worse. I too felt better if I laid down or sat, but now it is at the point when I lay down I am rocking also. I am scared to go off because it does make me feel better and everyone is telling me I will be more dizzy coming off of it. Not to mention I am sure my anxiety will hit me in full force again. My pysch doc seems to think I may not be able to tolerate SSRI's. What do I do in that case? I'm scared, my PPD was pretty severe to begin with! What do I do? I am really feeling hopeless!

I had a friend who took it and couldn't handle the side effects so she halved her dosage to 5mg and was fine. It still worked for her at that dosage but she didn't have the side effects. Perhaps you could try half your dosage for a while and see if that helps the side effects while still keeping you sane, then up the dosage to your usual dose several weeks later if you need. That might hopefully keep you from getting the full effect of the side effects.

O.K, today is day 27 on lexapro and I am still rocking and dizzy as ever! It has made me feel better, but I am so dizzy sometimes I think I am going to pass out. Jish, I tried what you said and cut my dose to 5mg two days ago, I was ok yesterday, but today I feel more dizzy than ever and I feel achy in my hands and arms. This couldn't be withdrawl could it? This is SO incredibly frustrating! This probably isn't the med for me, so what is? I don't think I can handle trying another one to have this happen again! :flipped
I just want to feel BETTER!

I had rocking boat for the first 2 weeks then it tapered off with effexor. Maybe call your dr and ask how long this typically lasts. :Hug I hope it leaves soon...I hated feeling that out of control too
