I think I got AF 7 weeks postpartum???

Help! what the heck?? I had a baby 7 weeks ago, bled normal post partum bleeding for three weeks, then a bit of spotting. 2 days ago I started to have period-level amount of bright red painless, odorless (not the lochia smell) bleeding that looks just like a normal period for me.

I am EBF, no paci, no EBM in bottles. My milk supply is good, baby is gaining and nurses well.

This is baby #5 so I know how things are "supposed' to happen.

Has anyone else gotten a period so soon post partum???

don't fret mama! it VERY likely wasn't. if you do enough time on the threads you will see that at one time or another, almost all of us (exaggeration surely, but LOTS of us have, really) had this freak-out. (mine was at 9 weeks, personally). it's some sort of "purging" or something, but anovulatory almost always and then lactational amenorrhea resumes. but since you won't know for sure that you aren't the exception to this rule, check your fertility signs regularly when you and DP are feeling randy! :wink

I had a little bleeding at 3 months pp, but now I'm almost to 5 months with no sign of AF. I'm EBF too with no bottles (DS hates them) or pacifiers (hates them as well). Some women do get AF back soon, but I think the early periods can be some risidual lochia.

I remember my midwife telling me something about how the uterus "turns" a bit around this time (6-8 weeks post partum) and that women can get some very heavy bleeding at that point... but the only times that happened to me was when I had very heavy bleeding for a long time postpartum (it has varied greatly for me).

She gave me a technical term for it, I probably am not describing it well.

I guess I just have to wait another month and see if AF returns.

Yes.. Many women have a 'hormonal bleed' at around 8 weeks pp. So.. If you get nothing after that one, don't consider it a period. HOwever, of couse there are people who do have regular periods starting that early. It is very rare with those who do ebf.

My period resumed 8 weeks PP after both of my kids, then came like clockwork every month (& I was EBF as well!). I've always just figured that I'm freaking fertile as all get out, & my body was just all "OK! When's the next sperm comin' in? We're ready!!" :p
