Any links to really thought out and comprehensive articles about HS that seem to not scream BIAS for not-quite-convinced DH?

He is very pro Montessori, against PS but has also been against homeschooling all along.

Basically he had the view that no parent would be able to sit and teach their child for 7-8 hours a day...took care of that myth. :lol And that it would be very hard to transition into the normal system and or college later on...and the whole socialization thing too.

He is OK with the idea of not having a rigid curriculum and the concept of child led hands on learning. He likes the idea of semester or year based goals...basically assuring that there is always some proof that academic concepts are being acquired. I am OK with that.

I gave him a really long "dispel the myths" article from mothering and he read it and semi liked it. He said that it did answer many of his concerns but he still would like for me to find more info that isn't written from a perspective of someone that has such a strong bias PRO HS. Do such articles and sites exist? He is very type A, evidence, stats and fact based and when he starts to detect an agenda, he pretty much largely dismisses the info presented.

Ideas??

Family Matters: Why Homeschooling Makes Sense by David Guterson. It's one-sided, because Guterson believes homeschooling is best, but it's not 'emotionally biased' in the way that dads tend to get put off by. Guterson is (was) a homeschooling dad at the same time as he is (was) a high school English teacher. While strongly committed to the public school system as the only realistic option for many families, he simultaneously pursues something different and better for his family.

His book is logically and persuasively argued, with a whole chapter devoted to his father-in-law's objections of unAmericanism, etc..

Guterson has a high credibility factor with guys like your dh because of being male, because of focusing on logical persuasion rather than emotional arguments, and because of being a schoolteacher and not engaging in school-bashing.
