Happy New Year everyone!
I am new to this forum and I look forward to getting to you some of you. I would love to connect with other mothers in the Tulsa Oklahoma area.
Peace to all

Hey okiemom,
I grew up near Tulsa and will be moving to Stillwater this summer. Have you run into any other MDC types in the area? I'm really looking forward to having my dh's parents to help out with our 20 mo dd. How long have you lived there?

not in the Tulsa area - I live in Perkins (10 min. south of Stillwater) and will be moving back to my old hometown Medford (35 miles north of Enid) in June when my stepson graduates from high school. I just don't see too many Okies around here and could not resist saying HI :wave
I have been an Okie all my life (graduated from OSU) and have 2 kids, Dylan (4) and Jordan (26 months). I don't find too many AP mommas around these parts, but am always looking.
Nice to "meet" you.

Hi Traci,
I've been looking around the boards from more okies and it looked like you were the closest to Stillwater and had the potential to be my first MDCer to meet IRL. (gotta love those acronyms!) Guess it'll just take more effort since you're moving to Medford.
My dd is 20mo, she is quite 'spirited' and still nurses alot, especially at night. She is also a big part of why we're moving back to Oklahoma -- we need HELP!
Do you happen to know if there is still a health food store in Stillwater? OR any other place that might have some organic food? We're kind of spoiled in that respect in Austin with Wheatsville food co-op right in our neighborhood.

Hi Dana:
The only organic food source I know of is just a small section of the local Albertsons store - not much but better than nothing. My husband works in Stillwater (at the hospital) and I also worked in Stillwater before becoming a SAHM when my daughter was born. We chose to live in Perkins because of the really nice school system and property values are more reasonable than buying in Stillwater (or renting either for that matter). I am excited about moving "back home", my folks need some help with their horse operation but I will miss Stillwater/Perkins area. I will be here until the end of May and maybe a little longer if we don't get our house sold, but since we already purchased our "new" house in Medford I don't know if that will really matter or not.
PM me anytime and maybe if the timing works out we can get together!

Hi guys! I'm so glad to hear from other Okies! I live in Tulsa with my husband and four children, ages 14, 11, 10 and 1 year. I just love having a baby in the house again!
When my older kids were young I had a great support system of other mothers much like myself but I don't have that this time and I do miss that.
Hope everyone is staying warm!!

Hi! I'm living in Tulsa as well. If you would like to find some other MDC type moms PM me and I'll let you know where we are.
What a joy to have a wee one again. My dd turned 2 in Dec. I'm loving it!

Hi Amy and welcome to Tulsa. Where did you move here from?
I'm not sure about the AP pediatricians. The dr I use know has been nothing but supportive of breastfeeding and has not given me 'the look' about Caleb sleeping with us. I'm sorry I can't be much help there.
Look forward to getting to know you

Hi !
I just moved to BA in July. I have a pdiatrician for you...
Dr.Miriam Mills. She is the most amazing ped. I've ever known. She is very supportive of AP parents and not only encourages natural medicine, she practices it herself. She is a pediatrician, but she also specializes in osteopathic manipulation therapy. I can't say enough good things about her. PM me if you need her phone # or wanna chat.

Hi, we live in the OKC area, but lived in tulsa for a while when ds was born. We used Dr. Linda Murphy, great ped, pro bf, etc etc. very well informed. As far as natural foods, there is an Akins on 41st(? might be 51st) and Memorial that is a whole foods store, organic everything. Quite a drive from stillwater though.

My husband, three foster children, 2 grand daughters, and our grown son all live here in Broken Arrow together. One grown daughter and her family live in Sapulpa, and one grown daughter and her family live in Tulsa. We are transplanted to Oklahoma from Ohio more than 20 years ago. My dh and I moved here to attend Bible School. I just love Oklahoma, but I really love Tulsa!

We are moving to Okmulgee next week. I'm from Elk City, went to college at OU and UCO and then moved close to Dallas. We are so glad to be getting back to Ok!

There really isn't anything to do where we live now either. I've gotten used to traveling to do anything... At least Tulsa is closer to Okmulgee than Dallas is to where I live now. Tulsa is so pretty, I've always liked it. We lived in OKC for a few years and I LOVED it. Most of our family live in OKC so we will be there often. It was very hard to get used to Corsicana after living in North OKC and Edmond! I missed NY Bagel and Deli, Ted's, and rollerblading at Lake Hefner!

OMG you're in Corsicana?!?!?!?! I grew up there!!! Wow, this is just too funny. We went down there about a month and a half ago and saw the house I grew up in, and went to the Collin Street Bakery yummy!!!!!

We lived on Bowie Circle if you know where that is, my dad built the house in the early 80's. Do you know Courtney Stewart? I went to school with her. Her dad owns the Stewartcar lot(chevrolet I think?)

Hi Dana,
We lived in Stillwater for 2 years and I absolutely loved it (we are in Norman now). 2 ideas for organic foods if you are still looking. There is a really nice food coop that orders from Ozark once a month. I got lots of good organic stuff there. Each member has to volunteer every month or so to do some job (unload the truck, separate orders, or be the cashier) so it takes a little time (maybe an hour or two a month) but most of the work is on a Saturday and people do bring their kids.
Now that I am in the OKC area I have gotten involved in the "Oklahoma Food Coop" which is a coop to bring consumers together with Oklahoma food producers in an effort to get away from agribusiness foods. Not all of the foods sold are organic but many are. Also many of the producers not certified organic are at least attempting to grow their food with organic methods. This is also a great source for people who want humanely raised meat and eggs (no confined animal feeding operations allowed).
The group has been in the works for awhile but we just started (we're in the 2nd delivery cycle) so we are still growing. Right now we are dominated by meat products (because of the season) but we expect to get more veggie farmers through green house growing and in the spring. We are doing monthly deliveries now though we hope to move up to weekly when we get big enough. This coop does not require you to volunteer (though you are encouraged to). There is a $50 membership fee but you can pay it in whatever installments you can afford. For those whose incomes are so low they could never possibly afford $50 in any installment plan, we are working on getting members to donate memberships for those who can't afford to join. This is also a great group of people.
If you are interested in the local food movement and sustainable agricultural practices, I highly suggest this group. Right now we have groups in the OKC metro area (including Norman and Edmond), Stillwater, Tulsa, Ada and Talequah. The information on this coop is at http://www.oklahomafood.org/handbook.htm and you can also go to our discussion group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/okfoodret/. The discussion group can get pretty detailed about the logistics of setting up the coop but is interesting.
The same guy that instigated this coop has a general Oklahoma Food website also has these websites http://www.oklahomafood.org (on sources of local Oklahoma Food and other products as well as other community type stuff. He has another site geared toward sustainable living called http://www.bettertimesinfo.org/oklahoma.htm. This second site has a section on local food networks which has a link to the Ozark food coop if you are trying to find a local Ozark coop.
Anyway, this post is really getting long so I'll stop. I hope this helps those of you trying to find good healthy food in Oklahoma.
Good luck!
Sandra

Ame - I just saw your reply to my other post. Anyway, I had noticed that you are an Oklahoma producer so in addition to buying food from the coop, you could also sell any products you make. We have a lot of producers involved who are not farmers but are making other value-added products. The only rule is that any items sold through the coop have to be actually produced by the person selling it (no resale or simple repackaging allowed).
At any rate, it might be a good outlet for work at home moms. The coop is (and will always be) a non-profit and at this point has no paid staff so our overhead is fairly low. Producers set their own prices and there is no markup by the coop (though there are some fees to cover transportation, etc.) We just officially started in November so we are still small, but growing.
Anyway, we have a new place to look at price lists (http://shop.oklahomafood.org).

Hi! I know, I am ressurecting this old topic, but I wanted to say hi to all my fellow Tulsa moms!! This is a great city we live in, and I'm excited to see so many others into natural parenting in this very very very conservative state. I've been to one of the API meetings here in Tulsa, but it seems like something always comes up that day. :bag: I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!

A Yahoo group has recently started for Moms interested in a playgroup for their 0-4 year olds. I would love it if some other apers wanted to join the group. Right now we meet on Wednesdays and Fridays at local parks. Here is a link to join the group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TulsaMomsAndBabyPlayGroup

Yes, every month. The zoo is the third Monday of the month, the regular meetings are the first Monday of the month, and they start in the evenings.
