Hi everyone! DS, who will be 5 mo. next week, has been frustrating himself constantly lately. He usually sleeps part of the night upright in his swing because of problems with congestion if he lies flat all night. I'm running a humidifier and sometimes a vaporizer with not much improvement. Also taking him to see a chiropractor.

My real problem is now that he can roll from his back to his stomach, he frequently tries to do this at night while asleep or awake. I don't have a problem with letting him sleep on his stomach if that's what he feels more comfortable doing since I am a very light sleeper and he has pretty good head control. The frustrating part is that he will usually roll over onto his stomach and then flop around like a fish out of water, waking himself up. It's like he wants to lay like that until he turns over, then he doesn't want to and gets stuck because he can't roll from his stomach to his back yet. He flops around grunting or crying until I turn him over onto his back, at which point he tries to flip right back over. So it is becoming a battle and neither of us are getting any sleep. To make matters worse, he has to sleep on his side most of the time or he startles himself awake, so it is even easier for him to roll when he starts on his side. I have tried wedging myself up against him when he is on his side so he can't roll, but then I worry that he doesn't have enough breathing room (if facing me). If I try to face him away from me he usually wakes up. I have tried swaddling his upper body in a Miracle Blanket, which helps, but somtimes he will not cooperate with being swaddled and will start screaming to get out.

Any other ideas?

TIA!

Mine did that too. I would just put my hand on her belly and rub it or something (really kind of holding her down) until she fell back into a deeper sleep. Sometimes she'd grunt or fuss some, but then just fall out again. This stage doesn't last long, so don't worry too much. Either he'll learn to roll from front to back soon or he'll just stop wanting to roll over in his sleep either way (until later when the real tossing and truning starts :lol ). Good luck :)
