I feel so bad for that family but that's why older sibs aren't suppossed to sleep with newborns. I just know this will be used to knock safe cosleeping.

Man...that is soooo sad....that poor family,
You know - sometimes we become so lack with our bed and sleeping arrangements - sometimes we (read "I") need to be reminded of some of the more basic principles...Frequently my 4yo dd climbs into bed with us - I need to remember to keep one kiddo on one side - and the other on the other side.... :(

Imagine what that 4 year old child is going to feel, not only now, but later in life. Let's hope the mother is loving enough not to ever act out against her 4 year old child.

so sad..
i think I needed to read that to be reminded not to let my 3 yo sleep beside the baby, which I have been doing (they are almost the same weight :nut ) Just have to be more cautious of it :(

Wow...this hits close to home. My 5 week old niece passed away from SIDS last year. They thought at first that her 2 year old brother had done this same thing. After an autopsy it was determined that he did NOT. If suffocation takes place, there's something that goes on with the cappillaries in their eyes. I find it hard to believe that they know without a doubt already that the 4 year old actually caused it (it took 2 months for my brother and SIL to get the autopsy report back). While it's possible, I really hope that's not the case. :(
