View Full Version : Second day on Effexor XR, what to expect?

I finally found the courage to tell my OB that I needed help for my PPD. Since I don't react well to SSRIs, he prescribed Effexor XR (75 mg) since it targets norepinephrine and dopamine, too. I haven't noticed any change yet which I guess is normal since it's supposed to take several weeks.

I searched through the forum for threads about Effexor and found some good information.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me regarding this particular drug and if you had side effects? How long before you noticed significant changes? I'm nervous about all anti-depressants because I've had such bad reactions in the past with others. (Manic episodes, insomnia, etc.)

If anyone has any reassuring words, I'd love to hear them.

I have taken effexor for about 1 year now and have had great results. I was VERY dizzy (I was taking something else with it too though) the first 2 weeks and then it stopped, sfter 1 month I was feeling better. My dr says effexor is a very good drug overall. I hope it works for you too!!! :love

Thanks for your reply! The more I hear, the less anxious I feel about Effexor. I've needed meds for a while (longer than I'm willing to admit) but my fear from past experience has made me SO hesitant -- but I've heard mostly good things about this so I'm hopeful. So far, so good. No nasty side effects yet, whereas my very first day on Zoloft I was through-the-roof manic. Keeping my fingers crossed!
