A friend/client of mine has complete placenta previa at 20 weeks. Her only restrictions are no sex and no orgasm and she has an ultrasound scheduled at 28 weeks to see if her placenta is moving. Normally she would be drinking red raspberry leaf tea but wondered if she shouldn't... I can't think of any reason not to, can you? She thought maybe it caused contractions, but it just helps to strengthen the uterine muscle and keep it healthy, right? How exactly does RRL work? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Red raspberry leaf is considered a uterine tonic, not a uterine contractor. It contains an alkaloid called fragarine which serves to relax and tone the pelvic and uterine muscles. There is a myth out there that RRL will cause contractions, I have never seen it work that way. (I have even heard in childbirth ed classes that they teach not to drink RRL until you want to induce labor....Misinformation).
