DH and I were discussing this. we couldn't come up with a name for DS to save our lives. everything we like doesnt go with our last name. it's Collette, very italian, very not going with anything i like.

We are 100% sure about a girls name. Have been for a little while.
Boys names are hard. The middle name will be James after dh's late father.
I always hesitate to tell people the girls name because its rather unusual and I always fear that someone will steal it. I hate to be copied but here it is:
Clover Bleu
or
Draven James

lotus.blossom - I love Clover for a first name! I promise not to steal it though. (I feel the same way about people stealing mine. :lol)

Right now my fav's are:
Alivia Sage
Jude Alexander or some other middle name (dh still isn't lovin' Jude)
but I have been known to change the name just before or after the baby is born.
We have:
Esme Heidi for a girl
Campbell Alexander for a boy
All are family names except Esme, which is just a name I really like. Esme Heidi doesn't really flow very well, so we have talked about using Adelheid or Adelaide instead, but I figure how many times do you really use both your first and middle name anyway?

Esme is really beautiful.
Nice idea.
It brings to mind a Salinger short story, is that your intention?

None really here. I have a girls' name if I happen to give birth on my EDD to a girl, but otherwise it's likely to be a long painful process. (again.)

We are going in alphabetical order. i did ask dh if he wanted to go out of sync on this one, but he said no. I think he's gearing up for old age when A B C and D are easier to remember. We already have an AA, BB, and CC so this one is going to be Dian Dacey or Dacy Diane if a girl. (first name four letters is also a pattern we have). We haven't come up with any boy names yet. Except maybe Drake. :down
You mama's have all picked out some good names :love

Thank you. I didn't consciously take it from Love and Squalor, although who knows, maybe that's where the seed was first planted!
There are some lovely name ideas here (which I promise not to steal!) I like Naia/Naiya. I don't think I've ever even heard that name before, but it's really striking. LotusBlossom, Clover is very pretty and unique. Midwestmom, I love Jude! (But if you do choose to use it, don't ever see the movie by that name with Kate Winslet. Very depressing and will create bad associations with the name.)
Kirstie, I think your alphabetical method is a wonderful! And Dacy is a neat name. It's very close to the name of a character (Dicey) in my favourite childhood books. (Dicey's Song, Homecoming, and the rest of that series by Cynthia Voigt.)

those names are really pretty. see i have rules about stuff like this... the first name cannot end in the same sound as the last name begins, like jack collette. the first name cannot start with the same sound as the last name, like kate collette. so far we like
GIRL
Maria Grace
Loren Anne (my grandmother's name is lorena anne, so that's why we spelled loren this way)
no boys names yet.

I also really like Naia/Naiya--those are pretty.
I think we're going to have a hard time with girl names--I have never really liked girls names for long. Ten bucks says whatever names I tell you here for girls I won't like in three months. Boys will be easier, because there are a lot of boys names I like. (And I *really* want this baby to be a boy, so I'm hoping I never even have to come up with a girl's name at all.)
That said, we are only in the very beginning of the talk about names. For girls, I like Adrienne (DH doesn't like it, though), Lyla/Lilah...hm. that's about it that I can think of. For boys names I like: Clay, Lyle (these two are definitely my top choices at this moment), Ansel, Lucas/Luke, Charles, Nicolaus, Aidan, Jack.
I am afraid I may miss some good ones, though, if we just pull names out of the air (or off of TV), so at some point we will probably get a baby name book and make some lists.

When I was pregnant with DD, we had picked out Tobin Michael (DH's brother is Michael) and Amelie Grace (Grace is my late grandmother's name). Since we used up the girl's name, we'll have to come up with another one, but I'm hoping it's a boy! We'll probably call him Toby for short.

I'm loving all the unique names!
Some other names that I'm partial to:
Zephyr
Magnolia
Audrey
or
Finley
Rowan
Cian
I'm big on the celtic names because dh and I are both of scottish/irish descent.

How fun! I love reading all the names you are all thinking of! I promise not to steal any also! For us:
Girl:
Skylar
Skya
Meadow
Boy:
Asher William
Mason
Malachi
It's a tradition in my family to name a child after a relative who has passed away. (With the first letter of their name.) We are definitely going to use an M (my husband's grandmother Miriam passed away just 3 weeks ago), but the other initial is still up in the air.

We didn't name Noah until after he was born & it wasn't even on the short list! We get tons of compliments on his name, but really, it just FITS.
Hope we do as well the second time around, but we'll probably have lists of family names for the middle narrowed down. We're a little more mainstream, but definitely don't want something very poplular.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

I LOVED Cynthia Voigt as well! When I read Dacy, I immediatly thought Dicey but didn't remember why until I hit your post :)
We are thinking
Emerson Rose
or
Noah William
In both cases the middle name is a family name (Rose for my MIL, William for my GPA and FIL). Other contenders include:
McKinnon, Payton, Dylan (for a boy or girl). My dad was born and raised in Scotland and he is "of the clan McKinnon." Avery was suppose to be McKinnon but she just didn't look like a McKinnon, it took us a few days to decide on Avery! I love reading everyone's name ideas!

We had no idea that my last son was a boy and he came so early that we hadn't even thought of it. We still figured we would have a few months to figure it out. I liked one of his latest suggestions, Jase, and I like the middle name of Orion. We really didn't even know the name until we got to the mortuary though...
With this one, we had the name already picked on the day that I found out I was pregnant. For a girl, we have stuck with the name that I liked and was going to give my oldest son if he was a girl. Arianna, the middle name we are still unsure of, but will either be Trinity ( I like because it will be my husband and I's third child) or Kharma ( Because we feel that our "luck" with past pregnancies is due to this). For a boy I decided the first name which will be Alistair,or a different spelling of the same name, and the middle name I told my husband he could pick, but he wants the name Fienne but I really don't like it, it just is different. I guess I could get used to it though.

I think if it's a girl, she will be Zoe....if it's a boy, he might be Ezra or Andrew. Our other children are Noah, Leah and Anna....so we're not sure if we want to keep the two-syllable ends in "ah" name scheme or not :D

We really haven't done the name discussion yet, just confirmed the pregnancy this morning! But sitting on the couch, staring at that beautiful set of pink lines DH mentions we need to incorporate Laura and/or Nathan. Wasn't even thinking - we are Jewish and there is a tradition that you name your children after family members that have passed on. It can be middle names, first names, or their Hebrew name. Goodness, I'll need to come up with 4 sets, boy and girl in english, and boy and girl in Hebrew!
Anyone have suggestions on variations of Laura?
And while I am at it, what is your first impression of a girl named Lehava? it is the Hebrew for flame, which relates well to some imagery DH and I have both had recently. I want a unique name, but not one so out there that is causes problems in life for my little one.
Both Laura and Nathan are lovely, lovely names. (I have really nice associations with both names because I have known some wonderful people of each name.)

I think it's a beautiful name. The only issue I can see is that people who don't know Hebrew may not know how to pronounce it, but I don't think that's a big problem. I have a difficult to pronounce last name and it has never been an issue.

We haven't really discussed it yet, but will probably stick with traditional family names (to go with our dd's Margaret & Alice). For girl, I like Eleanor, nn Ellie or Nora. I also love the name Ruth (nn Ruthie) but we decided the first time around if we used that one, we'd probably eventually have a teenager on our hands who was desperate to change her name LOL. For boy, I think we settled on John Benjamin last time around and would probably use that one again.

I've got names...but dh doesn't even know I'm pregnant yet. I just tested (+) today...
Anyhow...Delaney Elizabeth for a girl.
Holden Michael for a boy.
Red Sonja
11-12-2005, 03:45 PM
Natalya for a girl - 99% certain on that one. :)
I'm not sure for a boy, maybe Ryan or Nathan. We have an extremely unusual last name that is always horrible mispronounced so we tend to stick with easy-to-pronounce first names.

Well, we've got it narrowed done to
Dacy Diane/Dyanni or Dawn Diane/Dyanni Dacy means from the south (which is where we live) and Dyanni is Native American for deer (according to google babynames).
for boy Dane Dwight. Dane means only God is my judge. I wanted Derroch, but dh doesn't really like it.
My kids names are Adam, Boyd, Cali so Dawn or Dane would fit. But, i like the geographical reference of Dacy. We'll see. This is the longest it's ever taken us to come up with names, and i keep a record of the opposite sex names.

I get to name this one as dh named ds - thayen gibson
so far i've come up with
boys:
Issac Frankie
Sonny
Girls
Clementine Sophia Elizabeth
Inara Sophia Elizabeth
but i'll be sure to change my mind about a million times - i can't decide until i see what he/she looks like.
We have had a girls name since long before we had our first son, but three boys later we have yet to use it. Each one of our children has a Christian name and a family name. The Christian name is the first and the family name is the middle, except in the case of Kellen (he is named after my grandma and dh's grandma who were each named "Helen) whose family name fit him as a first name. Turns out it is a real name -- it is Celtic meaning "mighty warrior."
Each of these lovely boys would have been Harper Helene had they been a girl. The Helene was a combination of our Helen's and my other grandmother, Eileen. Thus, if we have a girl this time (which isn't going to happen) Helene won't be the middle name. I'm leaning toward Harper Catherine, but I'm not sure why. Boys names have always been hard for us, figures we would have three boys. I guess I have eight more months to come up with a good boy name.
I've got to confess, I'm really starting to like the name "Collette" for a girl. :lol

Ds is named Ayden Glenn (Glenn is hubby's first name which is MIL maidan name)
If it is a girl we are going to name her Ava Emily (Emily after my grandmother)
If it is a boy we are going to name him ______ Fraser (Fraser is my mom's maidan name); but we have NO first name yet, I have to start looking!
All the names are soooo pretty and unique on here!

We are all celtic here. Both dc's have very irish names, so clearly this one must follow! They are also very uncommon, so I feel like this one needs to be as well. Unfortunately that's easier said than done. I love Niamh for a girl (Nee-ev) and Maeve as well. Dh likes Lachlann and Finnegan for a boy. No middle names yet. I can't ever do that without the first name. I do suspect that this will be a boy, so I've got to get myself in gear with boy names-girls are so much easier!

I have a Naiya. ;) It means water nymph in Greek and she was my first waterbirth.
If it's a boy we will probably go with Zion, a girl we will probably choose Bennett.
Other names I like though - Jude (DH hates), Leighton, Saffron, Lotus, Aliyah.

With our dd, it was easy. We liked Emma and Grace, when she was born, she was a definate Emma. When I was pregnant with Emma, we decided that we really liked Seth Michael for a boy. So, when Seth was born, that was easy too.
This time though...ugh. I really like Samuel and dh doesn't so much. We both like Eli, but can't decide if he would be Elias or Elijah. For girls, we like Elizabeth (Libby) and Kathrine (Kate).
We'll see though...this baby may be born and none of those names fit him/her.

Dane means only God is my judge.
I would assume Dane meant from Denmark. I met a man named Dane who said his parents gave him that name because the Dane's response to Hitler's command that all the Jews wear Stars of David on their arm was that the king himself came forth the next day wearing one, and soon the rest of the country did as well. The Danes did do some fantastic passive resistance in WWII.

DH and I have no problems coming up with names for girls that we both like... (So far, we like Cora or Amaya.) But boys are alot harder! Every time I mention a name, he throws out one of those "I knew someone in high school named that and he was a real..." type of arguments. :bang
"Riley" is the only name that hasn't provoked any horrible responses yet, so that's promising! :lol
