I'm having a home birth, but getting concurrent care at the local county facility, and I think they want to do an ultrasound on Monday. I'll be just shy of 13 weeks. I know the genitals are taking shape right about now. Do you think its too early to tell?
Did or has anyone else found out yet?
My DBF had a vivid dream that we are having a girl last night, and even dreampt her name.
I've also had a couple girl dreams, too.
I didn't find out with my last baby, but for some reason I'm dying to know with this one!

I think 20 weeks is when you're likely to get a good indication either way, but if the angle is just right, it can be sooner, like 16w. i would think it very unlikely that you'd get an answer either way at 13 weeks...
My information is from personal experience and a quick google search- so take it with a grain!

18-20 weeks is when you would really be able to tell. It's probably too early right now.

13 weeks is too early to detect gender on an ultrasound, but you will get a good picture of the whole baby at once. I thought that my 12.5 week u/s with my dd was better than the ones at the end because you coudl see the whole body at once rather than he this is a picture of the abdomen. I think the earliest you can tell on u/s is about 16 weeks if you get lucky. Usually about 18-22 weeks is when they check.
Happy baby viewing! I go in on Thursday and since I have a tilted uterus I am pretty sure they will do an u/s like they did with dd because my uterus was tilted to far back to get the heartbeat with the doppler yet. *nerves*

My good friend had a nuchal translucency test at just about 13 weeks. The doctor asked her then if she wanted him to tell her what it was. She opted not to find out. I have no personal knowledge or experience, but this doctor specializes in maternal and fetal medicine, so I'm just no so sure. I'd like to think it's possible since I'm going in for my nuchal translucency test on Thursday. I'll be 13w4days. I'll post more as I find out or for sure on Thursday.
If you're wanting to find out the gender, I hope it's not too early for us...... :wink

I found this the other day and it is very interesting. I think if they have a really
good machine it is possible not likely but possible.

my girlfriend went and had the 4D ultrasound done at 14 weeks and found out she was having a girl. I was really surprised they could tell that early, but I would definitely be concerned about the accuracy!

I had the neuchal fold US today, I'm 12 weeks, and I swear I saw a penis, but that's probably just because that's what's in my head. I didn't ask, and now wish I had!

I had a friend who showed me her u/s picture at 14 weeks. I was SURE I saw a penis. She now has a baby girl. Apparently the clitoris is REALLY large at first. That's my only guess, because there was definitely some dangle action there. :lol

I had a nuchal translucency test done today and the doctor is quite confident (in his words) that I'm carrying a boy! I am 13w4d and we even have closeups of the boy parts. Although they may be able to make an educated guess, I'm not Ebaying my daughters' clothes until after my 19 week u/s. It's fun trying to figure out (for those of us that want to know)....
