I am a single mom of a 22 m.o. dd and am hoping to go to school to be a cpm or lm (midwife non nurse) but, amtrying to find someone who's been through it to give me advice. I know that I will qualitfy for FAFSA and what not but, what do you do about childcare when you're single and have to move somewhere new to go to school and when you won't know when you'll have to leave at night? It seems a little scary I guess but I know it's what i weant to do.

Don't think federal aid is applicable - are non-CNMs legal in your state? I'd cross-post this to the midwives/ doulas/ cbe board; maybe they'd know.

I went to college when dd was 2 yrs old. I lived in my hometown so my family was able to help out. We moved to Maine when she was 6 yrs old and I did not know anyone so I had to start fresh. I found her child care provider through an agency that works with DHS and provides names of licensed daycares. I also work some evenings so I had to have someone else to care for her at home. I was able to connect with coworkers and find people that way. I was scared but it was not that bad. I am really social so meeting and getting to know people is not a big deal for me. We have lived here for only 3+ years but I am sure that I know as many people here as I did when I lived in my hometown. Good luck. ;)
