I am spinning off another thread about the Jan 18th DC protest against the impending war on Iraq. I am thinking of driving up with my 7 year old DD for a 'field trip'...any Florida Moms going?
Tampa, Florida, January, 18 , 1 PM to 4 PM to Coincide with the DC protests
United Voices for Peace: There will be a massive PEACE GATHERING, organized by United Voices for Peace, at the main gate of MacDill Air Force Base (Dale Mabry), on Saturday, January 18, 2003.
Hundreds of Floridians will gather from around the state in a powerful affirmation of their commitment to global peace and to a peaceful resolution to the conflict with Iraq. Already at least twenty-six peace organizations, communities of faith, and social justice movements have committed to participate. This event will kick off at 1 PM.

bumping this up since it is next weekend. Here are the details from the Tampa group..
'I could not mark the map, but you can locate the Gathering site as being on the right (as you look at the map of the MacDill AFB area) and just north of N. Boundary Rd. on Dale Mabry Hwy. The drop off site will be at the intersection of Interbay Blvd and Dale Mabry Hwy (on Interbay south side). Parking will be at Gadsen Park.'

Well, LunaMom, sounds like you will be more comfortable at home anyway!
There are 12 buses leaving from Florida to take folks to the DC rally, and our regional rally in Tampa at the air force base/command central is shaping up nicely!
There will be shuttles to take attendees to the gathering site from the central parking area so very handy for us taking kids.
I have 4 moms and kids meeting up there that I know, I truly wish more mamas and kids make a showing, cuz like Bono says, 'no one cries like a mother for peace on earth...'

Chi Chi did you go??? I saw so many mother and kids, it was great. Just got back today from the Tampa march on Sat. It was very well organized, about 1000-2000 I think.
It Felt proud, happy, cold, responsible, peaceful and futile all at the same time.
We marched ( well stood) at the gates proudly with 4 other mamas and all our kids. Waving signs, and just hoping that our voices would be heard.

no :(
dd woke up with the sniffles and a little cough on Saturday morning. I still wanted to go for at least a little bit, but dh made a good point that I wouldn't take her outside to a park or a zoo.. so I shouldn't take her to a peace rally. I bought all this stuff on Friday to make signs, too :( and he couldn't watch her - he was teaching class starting at 11 and didn't get out of there until almost 4 as they are preparing for an upcoming show.
anyway, sounds like I missed out on some fun. I feel bad because I live so close... but we spent most of Sat. inside, going outside just to play with the dog for a few minutes.. and dd is all better now.
:thumb to you, your dd and all other mamas & babies. well, to everyone who was there really :love

Well, looks like I won't have to go far to get involved! Early Nov we are expected to report to our new assignment at MacDill. I hope to become aquainted with you all personally. I could use some support when we arrive. Hoping this does not get us off to a rocky start! ~Jess
