View Full Version : Ack! Posterior baby!
I had one of my midwife home visits today. We were able to determine that this baby has gone posterior. :irked: Emily was posterior and I had some pretty horrendous back labor as a consequence. Needless to say, I'm willing to do just about anything to prevent that from happening again!
I've been reading the Spinning Babies website, will be doing pelvic tilts and knees chest position as much as the kids and my sinuses (I have a cold too) will permit. I'm seeing my chiropracter tomorrow and will be talking to her, and I am getting a recommendation for an acupuncturist.
Is there anything I'm missing? Any success stories? I really don't want another posterior baby! Help!

I would suggest going to a chiropractor, they have good success usually with flipping posterior babies. I've gone a few times and no such luck for me, she's still posterior, but it might work for you. It's worth a shot.

elwynn was posterior all along ( well from when the MW could tell position).. but turned somewhere in early labour. i didnt experience "back labour" at all..so they can turn and i think they do tend to.,. i hope your baby gets into the right place for birth. the things that i did were.. sit on a birth ball..hand and knees..swimming.. and talking to baby a LOT about getting in the perfect place.. this baby is also a bit posterior but im not too worried.. :hug
I am seeing my chiro tomorrow, and plan on talking to her about it for sure!
I'm pretty excited because one of the mamas on my AP group is a certified massage therapist and is coming over tonight to work on me to try to get the baby to flip!

i made a post that sounded exactly like yours a week or so ago.........my friend/doula lent me her birth ball and at my next mw appt she said baby had turned! i had been trying to do the hands and knees thing, but it was virtually impossible for me because it was so uncomfortable w/ the weight of my belly and gravity and honestly w/ the weight on my wrists i just couldnt do it........but when i got the birth ball i could use that to do the hands and knees thing, and it did the trick! you could probably get an exercise ball for like twenty or thirty bucks from target!

My last 2 turned during early labor. The one before that rotated during transition. I think it's fairly common for multips to not turn and descend ahead of time. The birthing and chiro certainly seem like good preventative measures.
Wishing you good labor vibes~~~~
I already own a birth ball! How do you do the exercise, again? My hands and wrists are really weak right now due to swelling, so anything to help them out would be good!

My little guy has gone from OP to ROP, where he stayed for several weeks with shifts towards ROA. I was thinking that's where he was going to stay, but he's moved over the the left side now.
Just gotta get him down and out before he decides to move again! :)

my second was posterior and my mw for the 3rd one told me not to slouch while sitting and keep good posture to prevent the baby from going into the posterior position. this may help, it did for me-the 3rd was not posterior.

i just get on my knees w/ the ball in front of me, and lean on it, right under my boobs/on the top of my tummy, and sort of rock back and forth, and also i try to do the "arch your back like a mad cat then curve it like an old horse" thing the midwives were telling me to do on my hands and knees. honestly i just sort of did whatever felt comfortable on there. heh heh. apparently it helps!
