I live in Rochester. I have a friend whose dh was laid off in the spring, like 25 % or something of the people working for Corning, who lived there, and her youngest was ~1 y.o., but since he was laid off, they moved to Connecticut for a new (and better) job. They had a great house, but she said it took about a year to get so that she liked living in Corning. But we were down to visit about every 2-4 months (it's only about 1 1/2 hrs). Corning is a pretty conservative community, but with Ithaca (~45 min away) there's a chance you'll find people with the same values. Give it a little time. There are midwives in Elmira, and some homebirth MW out of Ithaca that will come as far as Corning, so there is a bit of an "alternative undercurrent."
That is in our LLL area, and I think there's a Corning group, or Elmira or something. Give it a try, even if your 1 yo isn't still nursing. That's always a possibility. If you need the contact number for a person, I can get it to you, so PM me! Also I know of at least one organic cooperative farm that would deliver as far north as Rochester if we could get 10 families together for delivery.

Hi aleathiad! I'm an AP mom of a 19 month old ds in Broome County. Have you posted on the NY/NJ/Pa board here in Finding Your Tribe yet? You might have better luck there finding mommies in Corning or Elmira.

I second the notion to hook up with LLL - I've found lots of support and connections there. The other thing is, if you're vegetarian, you could search out vegetarian groups in your area - that sort of thing.
Anyway, I'm in the Southern Tier, too. Pm me anytime.

I'm in Ithaca and my inlaws are near Binghamton so I'm in the area too. We just moved mid-December. Maybe we should have a southern tier picnic or something once all this white stuff goes away (if it ever does...)

We (myself, dh, ds#1 (7yo), and ds#2 on the way) live in Broome County too :)
We moved out here about a year and a half ago. Definitely takes some getting used to, but there are lots of really incredible groups around.
I know there are a few others from this area lurking around...
It's always nice to know we aren't alone :)

ljkelly - Hi there! Are you in my LLL group?
You guys - I would LOVE to do a picnic when the weather gets better!!! Or even an inside thing somewhere (at one of the local places where kids can run around and be wild) this winter. Let me know if anyone's interested.
If you haven't checked out the NY,NJ,Pa board within Finding your Tribe, check it out - you can sometimes find more local people there.

AutumnWind--not yet, although I expect to be there soon enough, assuming the timing works out with everything else.
Kiddo#2 is due in March (so close, yet so far!!) :D
I nursed ds for almost 2 years, but never went to any LLL meetings. I kind of wish I had--I felt like such an oddball doing the ap thing (this was 7 years ago and in the midwest).
I'm thinkin' it might be nice to have support from other people this time around. With ds1, the pediatrician was trying to get me to wean at 9 months and no one in my immediate family nursed more than 6 weeks. It was definitely an interesting experience. :rolleyes

ljkelly - Great! If you need any info, pm me anytime!!! I would love to hear from you.
Also, just to let you know, it's best to start attending LLL meetings when you're pregnant, so come anytime. We have a meeting this Wednesday morning, actually. pm me if you're interested. I started attending meetings when I was pregnant, and it really helped with support, expectations, my birthing experience and everything.

Hi aleathiad, welcome to Mothering.
By clicking on the "Tribal Areas" above you will see several forums for different states..
We did this so those that lived near each other would have a place to post to each other. I am moving your post so the moms near you will be more likely to see it..
I hope you like it here..:)

Just wanted to introduce Myself.
I'm Leigh. Mom to Emily (3) and Nathaniel (1). We're just outside of Binghamton in the Endwell area.
I'm looking for activities or playgroup for myself and my two toddlers.
I'd be more than willing to host a group at my house weekly or bi-weekly. I live just minutes walk from Highland Park, so that would be an option for Summer as well.
I don't drive, and hubby works constantly, which is why I'm offering my house as a meeting place.
I have plenty of space both inside and outside, and quite a few toys for most ages. ((Both plastics and wooden toys))

60+ degrees yesterday. No temps below 45 in the forecast. Could it be that spring has come to NY finally?

Hi, I haven't heard from you, how's things? Did your school start?
We are buying a house on the corner of Jennings and Flint. It's across from the elementary school. We are moving in the next couple weeks..
