Hi,
I'm vikki, got my :+ a couple of days ago. This will be my second as i have a 17 month ds who is still nursing.
We were going to start trying next year... but got a little lapse and bingo!
I think if you wait for the perfect time to have kids you'll never have them so although i've just started a degree and we were planning on sorting out our house so we can move i guess it was just supposed to be.
People who are pregnant with their second, third, fouth etc - did you feel so much calmer this time round? With ds i was jumping around the room sooo excited but this time its such a calm warm feeling.
with ds i was part of a not very ap / nfl noticeboard so i'm looking forward to going through this pregnancy with like minded people.
Looking forward to meeting you all
Vikki

Welcome!
I just got my + yesterday, and I also have a 17-month old who is still nursing. She was born June 12, so almost the same age as your DS.
This will be my third. When I found out with DD1, I was kind of excited but mostly terrified. Even though DH and I had been married 3 years, I was just starting a business and he was just starting law school. But it worked out... WithDD2 it was exactly what you described, a happy warm feeling. Much calmer. With this one, though, I am still a little overwhelmed. We were not closed to having more kids, but this was not expected and poses some logistical issues for our life in the near future. But we're excited and we know it will work - it may not have been "our plan" but now it is "THE plan" so here we go...
I'm excited to be here too. I've never had a network of like-minded women around when I was pg before...

:w and congratulations!!!
this will be my 2nd ... and to answer your question: now that i've seen the heartbeat, i do feel calmer - warm fuzzy feelings rather than pure excitement. i was not before that, but i do know what you mean.
i, too, was not around ap/nfl folks much during my first pg ... and i was only on mainstream msg boards, which was frustrating.

Welcome and congrats!
I'm hoping that I will be calmer with #2, I already feel like I am. I'm not obsessing over "must get a blood test, get a beta, what are my numbers" etc. I know it's still early and anything could happen, but I'm more confident in my body this time around.

You know, I think I was calmer with my first than my second. My first was a big shock and I think I just was a little blissfully ignorant of all the risks and what-ifs that lay ahead. With my second, it was very planned and therefore seemed somehow more tenuous. Plus I had pre-term labor issues with number one, and I was scared of going through that again.
Now, the third, I'm in between. I feel very accepting of where I am. Realize that nothing is set in stone. But also am dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. We are very excited but like Jessica, this poses logistical problems that I haven't solved in my mind yet. I know it will work out. I am just feeling very observant of this pregnancy so far...like an onlooker who is keen to see how this is all going to go. Not unhealthily detached though...just feeling very quiet inside.

Congratulations Vikki to you and your family on preg#2.
Yes, it's not such an abiss with the 2, 3, 4 etc. But, the amount of love is just as much. Just a more calmer, relaxed love. :thumb
Experience counts for much!

Welcome! And congrats!!
I'm very thrilled this time to have a very low intervention pregnancy and birth (I'm hoping to homebirth) as I had a high intervention and stressful pregnancy last time.

That is so true! If our first did not happen by accident we'd never have any kids. That was our plan.
So for me expecting second one is VERY exciting because I was in totally denial with my forst child for good 5 months!

Yep, but I think that a big part of it is that this was only our 2nd cycle TTC and last time it took a year and a half.
DH called me 'pregnant wife' a couple times before the BFP so I guess it wasn't really a surprise to him!
