So...what old wives' tales have you all heard about how to tell if you're having a boy or a girl.

I've heard that with a girl you gain weight all over, with a boy you just carry in front (though I know too many cases that have disproved this!).

That with a girl, your face changes more in later pregnancy. Also that your skin is worse with a girl.

I did the ring test, and that says that we're having a girl. Curious to hear other old wives' tales so we can play the guessing game some more (I think boy, dh and MIL think girl).

Actually the weight thing is the other way around. I have heard with a boy your
nose gets bigger this was true for me it was like my nose was swollen..lol....and
if are really sick it's a girl and not so sick it's a boy also was true for me. If you
have a V shaped vein in your left eye then it is a girl don't know about this one yet
but have known quite a few people where this one was right (I do have one by the way). If you carry high its a girl if low it's a boy. If the heart beat is over 140 girl
if 140 or lower boy this was wrong with dd not sure about ds. That is all I can think
of at the moment but I will get back to ya cause' I know more.

Here is a quiz you can take to estimate your chances of having a certian sex.
You don't have to answer all the questions just the ones you know the answer to. I have an 83% chance of having a Girl. YAY I would be ecstatic if we have a girl. I am still expecting it to be a boy though.

That quiz is funny ellymay. It told me that I had a 50% chance of having a boy...no mention of a girl!

I just took the quiz and it says 58% chance of having a girl. :exclaim

My dh is one of five boys and one girl and almost all of the cousins are boys BUT we started out with a girl so you never know. We'll see!

I've had much more nausea/throwing up than I did the first two pg and a friend of mine suggested twins. :dropjaw Yikes that would be scary. Neat, but scary. That would explain my mixed signals (I'm not feeling either way at this point) but I doubt that I am pg with twins.

I got 75% chance of a girl! I couldn't answer a bunch of the questions, though, because I'm not "carrying" a particular way yet--to early.

I've also heard that vegetarians (and smokers) are far more likely to have girls. A study of British vegetarians found that 80% of their offspring were girls! It has to do with vaginal pH.

I am one of 4 girls/1 boy. My cousin has 4 boys though!

My sister had no morning sickness with her daughter but has had a little with her son. With her first, everyone except my dad was certain it was a boy because of the way she was carrying. She's carrying this one (which is a boy) the exact same way, though, so I think it's a myth--I think how you carry has much more to do with your own body than the gender of the baby.

I agree with Amanda... your body shape seems to determine more how you carry IME/IMO. I carried low with both of my pg.

Wow, vegetarians are more likely to have girls huh? I'm almost a vegetarian... I only eat meat occasionally- like if I have a craving. Otherwise I make a dish with meat for dh and without for myself. I ate a whole plate of dumplins at Cracker Barrel last night, but ordered it as a veggie plate so I didn't get the chicken pieces. :innocent

You know what? When I was pg with ds I craved steak from Texas Roadhouse all the time and I'm not having meat cravings this time (so far). Hmmm. :nut But, the hair on my legs grew really slow when I was pg with ds and it's doing the same thing now.

See, I'm full of mixed signals!

75% chance of a girl!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!! LOL. I can only handle so much drama in this house. :lol

I did the ring thing and it was a boy. the hair on my legs is growing slower but the hair in my armpits is growing faster (and let's not TALK about beard hairs!) which is supposed to mean boy.

the chinese birth calendar says girl but it was wrong with DD.

We'll see! Soon!

I've heard if you break out more, it's a girl.

Also if you gain weight in your butt, it's a girl.

I have a feeling this one's a girl, and I'm definitely breaking out more. My butt, however, was already big! :lol

The hair thing. Based on empirical evidence (looking at my legs today and trying to remember the last time I shaved :scratch), I've scientifically determined that the hair on my legs is growing slower. Does that mean boy or girl?

I got 75% of girl. Too funny! Dh is so scared of a little girl. It's really cute. :)

Ok I just remembered another one that someone told me and that was if your last child said dada first then your next would be a boy and if it said mama first then your next one would be a girl...lol....this didn't work for me so IDK but you never know.

:lol For me, it means it's been so long since I've shaved that the hair's just stopped growing.

Great little quiz, ellymay! Very cute. I got 75% girl, too! My MIL will be very happy.

This isn't gender-related, but a friend told me that the worse your m/s is, the smarter your baby is going to be. I think she was just trying to make me feel better. . . :lol

Okay, so I've heard about the ring test, but I can't remember which result means what.....can someone remind me?

All the "evidence" (including the test linked above--83% girl!) points to having a girl, but I keep picturing the baby (inside me) as a boy....keep referring to "him" as in "he's really kicking today!". But oddly, I can't picture the baby being a boy once it is born, if that makes sense....it's weird. In my womb, I think of it as a boy, but picturing/imagining the labor/birth and after, I only see myself holding a baby girl. Strange, huh?

Anyway, another wives' tale I've heard (only works for second or subsequent babies): Look at the swirl on your youngest child's head. If it is centered right in the crown, then your unborn child will be the same sex as your youngest. If the swirl is off-center either side, the unborn baby will be the opposite sex.

This one has worked for me so far--ds's swirl is off-center. DD's is almost totally dead-on center, so that also points to another girl...guess we'll see in a few weeks! This test also worked for a friend of mine, who has 12 (not a typo, LOL!) children. It has been totally accurate with all except one of hers.....and she had a miscarriage (too early to determine sex) between those siblings! Freaky, huh? :wink

I need some more of these to keep me occupied during these last uncomfortable weeks! Anybody know more? What's the one about putting Draino in your urine?

ETA--oops, I just realized this is the May 06 thread! I did a forum search for gender/wives' tales and came up with this thread, and didn't notice that I had wandered off the main page! Pardon the interruption! :love

I actually keep hearing different things about the ring test. Most of what I've read says that if the ring moves in a circle it's a girl, but if it moves back and forth it's a boy. But other sources say it's the other way around. :scratch The first honestly seems to make more sense to me, from a symbolic perspective (circle = girl, line = boy...don't make me spell it out, people!).

Some others I recently heard are:
1) bright yellow urine = boy; dull urine = girl
2) sleeping on left side = boy; sleeping on right side = girl
3) right boob bigger than left = boy; left boob bigger than right = girl

Of course, my right boob is ALWAYS bigger than my left...so maybe this means I can only have boys? :lol

My left bby has always been bigger than my right and I have one girl and one boy...
My urine is usually clear or really light yellow but that is bc I drink as much water as I can. I am only comfy either on my belly or my right side but I have always been that way so IDK........
