Hello all!

I am Jessica, cureently SAHM, son be be WOHM to two beautiful children.
I am married, but in a sense doing it on my own.
My first child was brestfed for 10 months until she self weaned. Now we have a baby boy who is currently nursing, happily.

In a matter of a week or so I will be returning to work full time. I know that this will be extrmely hard on the baby at first. I just pray that he will adjust better than I am expecting. But believe me, if he does not adjust within a few weeks, I will be more than will to give up my job and become a SAHM again.
Times are very stressful, financially, and my relationship with my husban is almost completely parised as I really have no respect for his ways anymore. He is not the hardworking, caring, and loving father and husband he was once before.
He has turned into a comparing, selfish, wanna-be single man over the past two months. He comes and goes as he pleases, spends no quality time with me or his children, and complains at me about getting back to work and not worry about our children.
I am in such a need for support at this time. I feel like I am about to give up the most valuable thing to my heart. My attached relationship with my new baby. It just breaks me.

welcome, mamabear, you are in the right spot.
I am so sorry that you have to go to work. I really feel for you. I actually went to work for the first time in two years and it was tough leaving my 18 month old son. But my husband is home right now and this job opportunity came up and so I took it. It is temporary and will only last a couple of weeks but, man even so, it is hard.
will you continue to nurse while you work? do you have a good pump?
i am also sorry that your husband is phoning it in. I am always saddened by that. my own father phoned it in while I grew up and he continues to do as little as possible. Thank god my own husband is so much better than my lame 75 year old dad..who should know better but doesn't At the end of the day, it is their loss, dads who do little .......
children are beautiful wonderful time machines.

Well, promise after promise has been broken hat he would help me buy a pump...So no, I do not have a good pump. I started to introduce soy formula, just so he would have nurishment while I am at work, and ONLY for a few weeks till I will have enough to buy a pump. So, purchasing a good pump is on my priority list. First I have to pay the car payments before they take it away.

I will bring my little hand pump with me to relieve myself though...I have an excellent milk supply andI am pretty worried about being engorged. It doesn't take long for my milk to come down...so I am pretty sure that I can get away with the hand pump for a week or two.
Ahhh! I am just so nerve wracked about this!

mambear, you don't have to buy a really good pump. You can rent one, usually from a hospital. Is that a possibility? Rent one for a month or two. You can also call a lactation consultant in your area and she will tell you where to rent one... ... until you get the money to buy one.

If not, can you please post your situation in the breastfeeding section, maybe there is a mother dot comer who has a pump they can loan you.
Iwish I could loan my pump to you but it is already borrowed from someone else.....if it was mine I would ship it out now.


re: broken problems from husband, probably other stuff. I might like to suggest, "The Dance of Anger". An excellent book. There are suggestions in this small book that can help change the dynamic in your house...... check it out on amazon. YOu might get it at the library.

Have you gotten in touch with your local La Leche League? It may be that they could put you in touch with someone with a double electric you could borrow.

Also, you could try hand expression - I don't know how to do it but I know it can be done and some moms say they get just as much milk as from a pump. Maybe post on the breastfeeding board about how to do it?

I also think you should try the Avent Isis manual pump. It's supposed to be the best manual pump and a lot of moms say they get just as much milk as from a double electric. You can get it for $35 at http://www.kidsurplus.com/breastfeeding.html. They also sell other Avent bottle stuff at really good prices.

You could just get a little rubbermaid cooler with cold packs for the bottles of expressed milk. you don't have to buy a special tote or anything.

I'm sorry your DH is being so difficult, is he suffering from depression maybe?
