View Full Version : Oh Crikey. Get this baby OUT! I want my Homebirth!

I am 42 weeks, one day. My most recent BPP last night showed not such hot things - i.e. low amniotic fluid (4cm), lack of fetal movement, etc. I would write that off as medical conspiracy (my last one, 6 days ago was excellent) except for the fact that baby is actually moving less and I can feel a lot more hard parts everywhere. I am 2cm dilated, 60% effaced, midline cervix. My doula left town today for the holidays and I have her backup for the next few days. I have to go in for another BPP this Friday, if still no baby.

I want my homebirth, but the complete lack of hormones is worrisome. I had more B-H ctx a few weeks ago than I am now. I think my low-intervention, laidback MW is getting a little antsy too, although she would probably never say so. She is being creative with due dates for my benefit. She does say it's time to get the baby out...she stripped membranes last night, I went home and had conjugal relations (TMI!) and took laxatives. And I got NUTHIN. A little bloody show with a few (3-4) clots; a little crampiness but it subsided quickly.

Things I have tried, on multiple occasions, in the past two weeks:

Acupuncture
Homeopathy
Sex
Walking
Hiking
Massage
Laxatives (mild form of castor oil)
Stripping membranes
Relaxation
Hypnosis
Spicy food
Disco Dancing (ok, just kidding)

What else can I try?! I am afraid of going another week and ending up induced, which happened with my first daughter at 34 weeks (preeclampsia). My MW does not have hospital rights. Do some women not make enough hormones to go into labor? Could there be something wrong with the baby that he is not sending off the signals? Freaking waa.

I'm gonna go pout now. I haven't tried that yet...

Pregnacy is a progesterone enviornment. Several chemical cascades occur for labor to begin. Progeterone drops, DHEA is converted into estrogen and estrogen levels increase, ect. SO that said, I would be taking black and blue cohosh and inserting EPO along with a triple dose orally. The stripping membranes will hopefully have set off the production of prostaglandins.... Lots of labor vibes for you! Have you tried nipple stimulation or the homeopathic versions of black/blue cohosh?

Lots of labor vibes from me too, mama--keep doing all that good stuff, 'cause it can't hurt, and it might help! We'll be thinking about you . . . hopefully by Monday you will be posting your birth story! :fingersx:

Is your baby in the "right" position, for example, NOT posterior? If not, can your midwife help you get the baby in the optimum position? I went to 42 weeks with my first and then was induced at the hospital. Now have homebirth midwives lined up and they think my first was probably posterior. I have read up on that - makes for over due babies and long labors. There are things you can do to help the baby get in the best position, which can help bring on the birth.

I have tried the homepathic form of cohosh called caulophyllum?

The baby is in an awesome position (LOA), head down. But not down too far/far enough, apparently. Maybe he's lost and I should send up a map and some climbing rope?

Today I will try acupuncture AGAIN with someone new, and she's also a naturopath, so she might have some advice regarding the herbs (I don't honestly know enough/strength/dosages).

If I don't have the baby by this weekend AND my next BPP is poor, then I apparently have to go in for induction. I am totally upset. I freaking hate the local childbirth hospital (being a germophobe and all), and worry about the baby's safety there as well...it's an old-fashioned hospital...bleh...

Reflexology is supposed to be good for starting labour & well i don't know how to phrase this but instead of having sex - if you swollow it instead - its supposed to be more effective orally :o

DO you have a double electric breastpump? Maybe some good nipple stim plus some black and blus cohosh would help. OR are you nursing?
