okay... i feel really dumb :o
but i can not for the life of me figure out how to kegel.
i had it explained to me really odd last time and i just realized i have no clue...
the more i read about it the more confusing it gets...
at this rate im going to end up pulling my groin muscles or something :lol
someone please enlighten me

Next time you take a tinkle try to cut off the flow and you will be able to isolate the muscles used in kegeling. Now when you practise kegeling don't do it on the loo because its not good to cut off your flow.....can cause UTI's.
Just practice tightening those muscles for 15 seconds at a time.
Its also easy to do it during sex. And believe me your partner will know!

The way it was explained to me is that the kegels are the same muscles you use as when you are urinating and have to stop suddenly (like because someone is coming in the door, or whatever).

Just to let you know, you are not the only one who had heard of kegels long before you understood what they were. To add to my own confusion, the first time I heard of kegels was when I was looking for some weights to use at home and found weights for kegels. I still am not entirely sure how you use them. :lol

The stop urination thing never worked for me, the only way I know if I'm using the right muscles is if I do it after sex (with my partner still in me). Its the same as if you would normally squeeze your partners penis. I've also heard of the weights (dumbell) and have thought that that would be really good for someone like me who has to have something to squeeze against in order to do it right. Its also easier for me laying down, if I do it sitting up I usually just end up working my bum :)

:lol omg i did the exact same thing... ive been scratching my head about kegel weights too.
maybe i need some though like the pp...
i can hold my pee astoundingly well so maybe i already have strong kegel muscles?
i guess i could just pretend i need to pee now and someones camping in the bathroom again :lol
then i read something about it being important to know how to relax those muscles... but after i contract them i lose them. maybe i have to enlist dp's help :blush

I discovered something by accident the other night. I don't know if it's "officially sanctioned" but it sure seems to be an easier way for ME to identify the right muscles.
I was bending over DD's crib, so nearly a 90 degree angle. Getting rather bored patting her back to sleep, I thought I'd try some exercises. First I sucked in my gut as tight as I could (fighting gravity, since it was all dangling down from being bent over :lol ). Then I squeezed those Kegel muscles.
Wow! So easy to locate, and to control!
Plus, it's easy to remember to do while I'm not-so-patiently waiting for DD to fall asleep. :lol

When you're Kegeling, is your butt supposed to contract a tiny bit, too? I'm an expert at cutting off the flow of urine/holding it in, but when I do that--or when I try to Kegel on my own--my butt contracts a little as well. I can't tell if that's normal or if I'm not isolating my muscles enough.
If you don't have a penis handy (!), I've read that you can also insert two fingers into your vagina and practice squeezing the muscles that way.

I was wondering the same thing about the bum muscles. Mine always contract and little too and I've wondered if I'm doing it wrong.

:lol Kegels should be done everyday, lucky partner! :lol
ETA: my butt muscles contract a bit while kegeling, I think it's fine.
