I am new to the Santa Fe area and newly pregnant with my second baby. My daughter was born in a midwife-run, freestanding birthing center in NYC & I am wondering if there is anything similar in Santa Fe (or nearby). Names of trusted midwives would also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I believe there's a very good freestanding birth center in Taos. I don't know of any in SF, but I live in Albuq, so maybe someone else here can be of more help!
Good luck to you!

The author of Birthing from Within, Pam England teaches and started a birth center in Albuquerque. I don't live there so I don't know much else. Here's some info

There is no birthing center here in Santa Fe. Rather strange but oh well. I had a great home birth here in town. My midwife has moved out of state but I know that there are lots of great midwives here. Contact Carolyn from La Leche League for a good resource for Midwives in Santa Fe.

If you are still looking, Gentle Birth is the practice located in the Birth Center mentioned earlier. The two midwives there are FANTASTIC (I should know, as I birthed with them and will again!). Here is their website:

If you look under Birth Center Birth, that's me :)
Good luck!

Hi !! I live in Taos and thought maybe at least I could give you the number of the birth center here and the midwives could help you find someone in Santa Fe. I know when I was getting ready to birth my son with them there was a big conference that the majority of the midwives were going to and they had a support midwife in Santa Fe that was coming up to be on call.
There number is (505)758-1216

I know I'm a little late to be replying to this thread, but I'm from NY and will be moving to Santa Fe too. The "pre"research I've done so far shows much the same as everyone has posted here -
the Taos birth center is supposedly 2 generations strong and very good; the SF hospital (St Vincent's, I believe) is not very pro-natural birth, but pushes non-circumcision (or so I've heard), the LLL in SF is dynamic and there are a few AP'rs; Albuquerque has more of a variety of .....well, everything; and I found a midwife from Albuquerque that I'm considering using that will travel to SF - her website is: http://www.tubsntea.com/
Hope that helps - keep in touch!
