embroidery

I am new to embroidery, but I enjoy it immensely. My FIL was embroidering a denim jacked for DD, but has not had the time to finish, so I have taken over. I am having a hard time embroidering on the heavy denim, as I usually use muslin. Does anyone have any tips that would make this project easier? It is so hard to take over a craft that someone else has started because you don't know what method they were using!

Make sure that you are using a very sharp needle, it will help peirce through the denim better. :) I use to do embrodery and cross stich all of the time. :)
