Here you are supposed to do it before one year or else its a big hassle. I think here the midwife has to go with us cause we have to have proof of pregnancy/delivery. Do you need a birth cert for tax purposes (which would mean doing it asap cause we usually file early Feb so we get money back faster! LOL)? Do I go to the SS# office separate? Last time I signed a paper at the hospital and mailed in a 16.00 check and got it a couple of weeks later. I guess I better look into this more asap, huh? That's something to do at least. LOL

Oh, Desiree, it differs state to state sometimes. Just ask your MW. But, have her tell your DH & let it be his responsibility. I'm usually so brainless immediately postpartum that I just never quite get involved with it. My DH has done it twice now and it's not that hard. The MW has given him "proof" of my pregnancy and birth via a note and then we need one more "proof" either from chiro, ped, some medical like professional.

Also, remember to add your baby to your insurance.

Thanks for the info! I do need to add her to my insurance too, we only have major medical but I'll add her to that anyways. LOL

Yeah, I didn't put the insurance reminder on this thread for fun and fancy... we forgot to add Cicely in the one week window our insurance company gave us after her birth. :duh OMG, it was awful to try to get her added. They kept saying we'd have to wait until the following year!
