I have a free sample and I can get them for $11 from the student health center! The NP I saw today also told me how I can get $10 pap screens so my health care budget just dropped from like $400 a year to about $150 a year. :thumb (I think I'll buy chocolate :lol )
I really hope this works out. Tell me good stories about not having hormonal side effects. :D

Good for you!
Let us know how you like it....I'd like to switch in the near future. So far everything I've heard has been positive.

This is my second month with it and so far it's great! I can't feel it at all and I haven't noticed any side effects. It has pretty much killed my sex drive though.

Oh dear. I'm hoping mine comes back. BCPs were doing a real number on me.
I'm not starting it until I finish this pack of pills to be sure that it works right. The hormones in the ring are supposed to cause fewer side effects than the ones in the pills.
Hmm, I should probably find out how long it took people to get back to normal cycles after getting of BCPs, that'll tell me how long it'll take for the nuva ring to "show it's stuff".

I've been using NuvaRing for over a year now, and ***LOVE*** it! It's the best birth control that's ever happened to me (tried several pills, the patch etc etc).
I've had pretty much NO side effects (with the exception of increased discharge the first couple cycles, but nothing after). Its been amazing. I feel good on it, have had no problems, and it's just easy.
Also, NOT ONE SINGLE issue with my sex drive!! (noone I personally know who uses it has had sex drive issues either) I've had major drops with other drugs (not just bc, but others as well), and not a problem with this one. I'm 110% normal :)
I've also had problems with bc failure in the past (using 100% correctly), and no probs with that in the NuvaRing.
I recommend it to everyone..lol

:yeah:
I've had the same experience as the pp but havne't used it as long.....
My MW recommended it to me and it's what she uses so I thought I would give it a try.....
I LOVE IT...
I was using Ortho-Evra before and got pregnant while using it and boy am I happy (well, you know what I mean) that I did bc I would still be using it oblivious to all the issues with it now....
I was worried at first that DP would feel it but he says he can't and that's fine with me....It's easy to remove and I like the fact that I only have to worry about it once a month....
Go for it.....

Same experience here with Ortho-Evra!! I got pregnant on it after only a few months! After that, I went back to a pill, and a horrid one at that... After 2 HELLISH months, I switched to NuvaRing, and haven't looked back...lol
I also can second that SO does not feel it during sex. Only in ONE position can I feel it, and you are able to take it out for a certain amount of time (then later rinse and reinsert).
I'm like an infomercial for this thing..lol Looking to hear more great things about it, just come ask me.... :lol (that thread I linked to, I'm allll over it about how great I think it is..lol)

I was on Nuvaring for several months without sexual activity (about ready to have the "send off" i.e. already married but not living together). I had alot of emotional problems from it so I took it off. And decided when my spouse visited for another method (pull out - very effective right? lol)... Finally, when I did have the send off, I started the ring again. This time I used it for about 4 months. Then, I decided in an emotional outburst that I can't deal b/c and decided for natural.
Unfortunatelly, I didn't put into consideration my menses would not be normal and predictable. I had an irregular mense 7 days straight a break for two and three more days. Then, I skipped a period. And then I had a period ...and then at the time I was ready to start counting my days and getting back into the normal grove for natural b/c I become pregnant. Happend really quickly. I went an entire month waiting for a period thinking I was just having irregularity... then nasuea slapt me in the face.
Oh sorry the point....the Nuva ring is easy. I loved the ease and my little timer. I also liked it because I knew exactly when my cycle would come and go. It didnt bother intercourse at all. The only thing, I must say was that it caused some serious discharge that I found to be unpleasant. Good luck!

I have been using the NuvaRing for 8 months now and I LOVE it! I really can't say enough good about it. The first 3 months I had some discharge but after that absolutly no, zip zero, side effects. I will never use anything else (and I had problems with the pill, etc).
I have also not gained any weight and just recently lost 5 pounds with no problems either....when I was on the pill I gained weight and found it impossible to lose anything...just FYI in case anyone had worries about weight gain/loss issues.
I also like that you can leave the ring in for 4 weeks and skip your period (ie leave ring in for 4 weeks and change out to another ring that same day at the end of the 4th week for another 4 week round).

It went in this morning. Thank you everyone for the encouraging stories!
It really does become unnoticable quickly. Haven't tried sex yet, I wonder if dh'll notice. :lol

Eep! Good thing I tried out that timer, I'd put the stickers on my calendar but was doing a 5 week cycle instead of a 4 week. You know, in sticker, then a 3 week gap, out sticker. Heh, that would have been bad.

Ah, I was wondering if that worked.

Ah, I was wondering if that worked.
I did this once, this past cycle, and it really freaked me out..lol I ended up getting alot of kinda gross discharge, and every once in a while some blood tinged, nothing bad.
I still had my normal period symptoms, and still felt gross, like I normally do on my period, so for me, it really wasn't worth it to skip the period like that... *shrugs*

Ah, I was wondering if that worked.
I skip my period every other month. For *me* personally it's wonderful but ovioulsy, from the above posters experience, it depends on the person. I dont have any of the effects she mentioned thankfully :)

nak
I had the ring and LOVED it. I was told you couldn't do the four weeks though. If you wanted to skip just take it out in the third week and put in the new one. That's what I did since the effectiveness isn't that great when left in longer.
My DH could feel it during sex. As could my boyfriend prior to DH. He didn't have an issue with it since it was only during...ummm.....alternative positions. :lol (trying not to get in trouble here! :lol) DH could almost all the time and had a reaction to it. I've heard though that all that is rare and DH is a freak. :lol
I loved it though and would get it again.

hehe
My SO can't feel it at all during sex, but I can in certain positions, so I take it out during those times, and put it back in afterwards...lol

Hehehehe I never thought about that....but maybe it's cause at that point I was angry with the guy and wanted to make him uncomfortable. :lol Ok enough nuaghty talk! :lol

It's great to hear so many good things about it!!
The only thing I know is that my sister used it and it came out without her knowing and she got pregnant. So keep an eye on it!!

Yes! It's important to check for it!! I check in the shower :) lol
It slipped out on me a few months ago as well, and I had no clue, until one night SO and I are getting close, and I decide to take it out, and OMG WHERE IS IT??? lol
We abstained after that, and had noticed in time.
It is only a once a month thing, but you DO still need to be responsible about it!!
