What's the deal with the start of the third trimester?? If the second trimester starts after you complete week 13, shouldn't the third trimester start after week 26? On all the sites I visit, it says it starts after week 27 or even after week 28!!! That's a long second trimester! :p

Since I'm due on March 3rd, and December 3rd passed a few days ago, I feel like three months left should = third trimester.

Goofy to be stuck on a technicality, I know, but I love the milestones.... :flipped

Anybody know why the second trimester is the longest? Anyone else getting psyched to be so near the 3rd trimester?? I mean--WOW--we're almost there!

YES!!!!

As of yesterday, I am officially in the third trimester, according to something I read. And yeah, there are other sources that say next week (28 weeks) will be the start, but I say what the hell, let's start it this week :D . It is very exciting. :love Makes me a little sad, too, because I enjoy being pregnant, even when I'm uncomfortable.

Well, here's my understanding of the trimester-thing:

First trimester = day one of week 1 through day 6 of week 13 (ie: 13 full weeks, or 91 days).

Second trimester = day 1 of week 14 through day 6 of week 27 (ie: 13 full weeks, or days).

Third trimester = day 1 of week 28 through day 1 of week 40 (ie: 12 full weeks + 1 day, or 85 days).

The way I figure it, the first and second trimesters are the same length and it's the third trimester that is potentially shorter than the others (assuming one isn't overdue).

Hope that explanation helps!

Either way, you're officially in the 3rd trimester by my count! CONGRATS!!! :thumb

That's really a cool site! I'm all confused about my due date though. All I know is that I'm someplace between 23 and 25 weeks. I guess he'll be a suprise!

I split the 40 weeks into thirds exactly, because I'm a math geek like that. So I decided I was in the second trimester at 13w2d and the third trimester at 26w5d. I figure that folks who say the 2nd tri lasts from 12 weeks to 28 weeks just want to make the "happy" trimester last as long as possible. Can't blame 'em for trying to make it as pleasant as possible!
