View Full Version : This must be a super mellow baby...

Around 20-24 weeks or so I was feeling this baby wiggling and kicking all OVER the place all the time, but these days he is SO quiet...for several weeks now all I feel is little thumps now and then, an occasional wiggle or hiccup, and even more occasional spurts of activity, but no big kicks and no dancing belly. I'm sure I'm missing some of his activity when I'm preoccupied with other things (and maybe he's more active at night when I'm sleeping through it...I do seem to feel him more at bedtime). But it seems that he hardly makes any big movements at all anymore. I check on him frequently (because he is so quiet in there!) and I can always find his heartbeat easily with my stethescope and it's always in a good range (130-150 ish). But it just seems odd to me that I'm not feeling and seeing more pronounced movements. Maybe he's so big that there just isn't enough room to give me a good hard kick?? Or maybe he's just decided to be a calm, easy-going baby who is perfectly comfy?? If I wasn't hearing his heart beating so often (several times a day) I'd be freaking out at times thinking something had happened because I can go hours without feeling anything. Anyone else have a super calm baby, or is everyone else having belly gymnastics going on?

I have a super calm baby myself which, after my extremely active dd, seems weird to me. I don't feel much during the day but the activity tends to pick up after dinner so maybe he/she is a night owl like me, lol! I also notice the baby moving at night when I get back in bed after my hourly trip to the bathroom so I figure it's moving a lot more than I'm typically aware of.

My dd was a mellow one and this one is the same. It's not very comforting, but, knowing that Stella was like this makes me ok about the lack of movement.

this is my first, and i think she's on the mellow side.
but i know she's fine, cuz after every meal and whenever i get the chance to kick my feet up and rest, she starts going at it! i'm about 30 weeks...could she already be getting a little squashed in there? she seemed more active last month.

dd was super crazy active and that continued after birth.
Ds was mellow but when he moved it really almost HURT but he would just park himself inside my left hip and stay there for hours.
this baby has been quite active but last week was really really quiet. The last three days he/she is making up for it.
I'm at the stage where the movements are sometimes making me queasy from the strength and intensity if I've just eaten. Anyone else?

My baby seems the same. I think it is beacause she ran out of room. She doesn't have all that space to wave around now. She does get in some good kicking fits some days!

It also mayu have to do with the position of the baby. The little girl is very active and I feel her more because she is facing up. The little boy is facing my back and I don't feel him nearly as much. I don't feel both of these babes as much as I did DS. The twins have anteriour placentas too so that may have something to do with it as well.
During the u/s I see thatn the little boy is just as active as the little girl- I just don't feel it.
At night when I am trying to sleep, it feels like roller derby or a monster truck show in there. :lol
Neither of my last two moved as much or as hard as this one--when she(?) moves, it's jarring and almost painful--we had a little preterm labor scare Thanksgiving weekend and she moved so much they weren't able to get a continuous heartbeat reading from the monitor without me holding the monitor and chasing her...so I guess I'm just big, not the baby!

My babe is different from day to day, I really think it depends on his position. He moves around a lot, switching sides, etc. Today there has been SO much movement - but then again, I have been laying around a fair bit (with a headache), so maybe it's just because I'm paying more attention than I would be if I were at work!
It freaks me out if I realize later in the day that I haven't really noticed anything all day, but if I sit down and rest, he will start kicking every time! It seems that he rests while I work, and plays while I rest!

I totally understnad how you feel....I ended up in te hospital yesterday for "decreased fetal movement" after calling the Dr to ask if it was ok that the baby slowed down a lot. I am thinking it is position....my babe is transverse right now....which is terrifying me (but that is a whole other topic). Everything at the hospital was normal with heatbeats from high 170s and down into the high 120's...so obviously it is not in any distress, just must be a mello baby just laying low (and hopefully seriously contemplating how it is going to turn :irked: ).

My MW is always concerned because I have to show her a fetal movement chart when I go and this baby does everything from 15 to almost 50 kicks a half hour on different days. Last weekend I almost didn't feel it at all and it scared me and since Tuesday it is having a ball again. I don't know, maybe it is tempremental:) My dh is convinced it already has my weird kind of humor :nut .
We will see.
I knind of try not to worry to much as long as there is some activity and I feel fine...

Well, it figures...in the last day or two since I started this thread the baby has been a lot more active! Still no intense acrobatics, but he's wiggling a lot more often and even kicking a bit more frequently than he was for the last few weeks.
I had an anterior placenta with Noah and it really muffled his movements, but this placenta is POSTERIOR, so it shouldn't be in the way at all - that's why I've been surprised to not be feeling more than I am.
I'm having some trouble figuring out just what position he's in, though...around 25-28 weeks or so I could easily tell what was what, but it's much harder now. I think he's been staying head down...we'll see what the midwife thinks on Monday at my next appt. I'm anxious about him flipping breech after having Noah be a surprise breech, but maybe he's laid back enough that he won't bother flipping and will just say head down! :wink

Our son is pretty mellow during the day, but boy is he wide awake at night. I think we're going to have a serious night owl. He was head down at my last mw appointment, and based on his movements, I'm pretty sure he's still in that position.
