Hey there! :sunshine

Once holiday preparations calm down, I'm going to start making a baby quilt for my little guy (who is kicking a TON right now! :D ). I'm thinking it'll be cornflower and periwinkle blues mixed with buttery yellows and maybe a little cream. Boy quilts are always a little tricky, though, because it's so hard to find cotton fabrics that aren't either a) flowers or b) plaid.

Anyone else making or getting ready to make fun stuff for your baby? Tell tell!

Right now I'm knitting a baby blanket for a friend of mine who's due in January but has a history of pre-term labor. She's done really well this time - her last baby was born at 26 weeks. Anyway, as SOON as I'm done with that, I have some beautiful blue cotton yarn that is waiting for me to make it into a blanket for MY little bub. I'm making the Debbie Bliss alphabet blanket, which looks like this: http://www.thewoolshack.com/debbie_bliss.htm?action=display&PatternID=1177&BackText=The%20Baby%20Knits%20Book

After that, I'm going to work on some pants and little booties and small stuff like that.

I'm currently working on this cross-stitch project (http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-FIND-MOTHER-EARTH-COUNTED-CROSS-STITCH-KIT-GOLD_W0QQitemZ8240149748QQcategoryZ34025QQssPageNa meZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem), and when I am done it is going to become the center panel of a quilt.

I am worried, though, that I didn't start it quite early enough . . . it may not get finished before the baby comes, and I can't imagine it will be easy to find time to work on it after! :lol

I made some sleep bags out of some of my husband's old sweatshirts. They're really cute. I tried a cloth diaper....but it doesn't look very seaworthy if you know what I mean.

Well, I bought a My first layette crochet book pattern, but the language is gobbly gook. I really prefer having someone showing me what to do or lots of clear real life pictures of the non-straightforward steps (as in single crochet 10x, I get but not the others, heh).

So that probably won't happen like I want. Anyone know any sites that have pictures and definitions of all this gobblygook language for crocheting?

I made a baby quilt for my son when he was 8-9 months old, but I was in the states at the time and found awesome material.. not sure where to get material here. But I hope to go to my sewing machien store where they ahve classes and ask them, or /and even taken a class*grin* Not sure how much I'd get done in 2 months of once a week classes though...

I knitted some little booties in this crazy technicolor yarn - its literally every color imaginable. They are so cute and tiny! I'm afraid to make too much stuff for fear it will not be "as advertised" and "she" will be a "he". I found some GREAT bright green yarn through an eBay store that would make a good little sweater for a little guy or girl - bright green suits anyone, I think. :down
There are some good knitting projects on knitty.com for those that knit...

I am really interested in the pattern for the sleep sacks out of old sweatshirts- is it a commercial pattern you are using?

I plan to knit a lavendar blanket for our girl. Her name will likely be Jolan, which means violet blossom, so I got her a lavendar and white jumper to bring her home from the hospital in and will make knit a blanket to match. The yarn is so soft and yummy!

Other than that, I write in a journal for about twice a month. I've written in a journal for 4 year old since I was pregnant with her so I figured it was only fare with our new little girl to do the same.

I'm learning how to knit right now just so I can make some soakers for the baby. Right now I'm working on my very first one. I am making it with this super soft rainbow colored wool. So far it's turning out well, but I'm crossing my fingers that it'll continue that way! I'm actually really excited because I'm going to a yarn store tomorrow for the very first time so I'm going to buy up some wool yarn to make more!

Uh.... I have SOOO much sewing to do!!!

Two slings
A Mai Tai
122 cloth diapers
60 doublers
60 cloth wipes
Baby quilt
Crib bedding (we are gonna side-car it, so I want the bedding to match ours)
Layette Gowns
At least 10 nursing tanks

I'm trying to forget that I only have like 3.5 months to go :lol

Nope...I just cut the arms, bottom band and neck off the sweatshirt and then cut what's left in half to get a square from the front (with the logo) and a plain square from the back. Then I cut them into a sort of teardrop shape (top of the teardrop is rounded though not pointy). The teardrop that is going to be the front, I cut it in half or fold over (so it shorter than the back) and then cut 2 pieces of flannel to match. Although, I guess you could make the sleep sack square, or rectangular, but the rounded at the bottom seemed more baby-shaped to me. You sew the flannel to the sweatshirt material as the inside liner of each piece, and then sew the 2 lined sweatshirt pieces together to make the little bag, and trim the inside seams well. If you're really adventurous you could build in a zipper. Make sense? I just played around with it and they came out cute...my luck I'll have a ten pounder and he won't fit in it.

Awwwww...these projects sound so sweet and terrific!
I made a bunch of diapers, all-in-ones and wraps. I took a picture (http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/happileigh4/detail?.dir=/a428&.dnm=dba6.jpg&.src=ph&.tok=phEaKFEBuXQkn3Pu) of my first 17 all-in-ones. Some of them look big because they are--I didn't want to have just little bitty ones and then run out. I also made two old-fashioned little dresses with matching diaper covers, and I have the fabric for two more. I made one sun hat but it turned out huge--*I* could wear it if I were interested in wearing a babyish sun hat. :blush Saturday my mom came over and painted my baby-room, so after I finish Christmas gifts (for people already present in the world, not for the baby ;) ) I'm going to start on curtains and other textiles for her room. (She's going to sleep with us, but "her room" holds all her stuff and our guest bed.) I think after I finish her room I'm going to do a few toys. Maybe a chewable doll, and a canvas bag for her letter blocks, with her name ironed on the side so she can model the spelling?
Can you tell I'm an over-eager first-time mom? :down :D

I've knit 3 soakers plus a pair of longies with matching hat so far. I'm hoping to knit another 3 soakers (combination of smalls and newborns) and maybe more longies before the baby arrives. I'm a knitting WAHM and lately all my orders have been for large/toddler sizes, so these little bitty things seem so fun and fast!

One more thing that's easy to make and very useful.....

My boys were both February babies (almost like a March baby :wink ), and before they were born I made several fleece blankets for them. They were so much warmer and more cuddly than all the other thin, cotton receiving blankets we had, and my boys always loved being "burrito" babies....if they weren't wrapped tight in a little fleece burrito wrap, they just weren't happy!

To make the fleece blankets, you don't even need a sewing machine (though I use one)....just go to the fabric store, buy a yard of fleece (which is usually folded over on the roll of fabric), cut it down the center to make two squares, then do what you want with the edges....you can leave them alone (fleece doesn't unravel), hem them over, stich them over with cute thread, or even use a scissors and make a fringe on the edge. The thing I like about buying your own fleece (or flannel) is picking out the patterns....last time I had a cozy brown plaid, blue blankets with yellow ducks, lady bugs in clouds, etc. The yard of fabric cut in half makes the perfect size for a 0-4 month baby...and when the weather gets warmer, you can use them as warm little floor blankets.

I always wash the blankets at least twice before using them with a baby. The big thing with fleece is DON'T PUT IT IN THE DRYER. They air dry very quickly, so using the washing machine and then laying them out works well.

Now if only I could motivate to tackle the pile of fleece in the basement.... :down Waiting until the pregnancy is "real" before beginning projects is great in theory, but finding crafty energy in the third trimester is proving difficult! :p
