Greetings,

We have a 3+ year old son and he sleeps with us. On many nights he goes into a horizontal martial arts routine in his sleep. We think he's just trying to make sure we're still there and make contact with us, mainly with his feet. It's ok when he simply flops his legs over us in a perpendicular fashion---it's kind of nice having a little pair of legs over you chest while you're sleeping. But most of the time we get jabbed by his feet and since he usually rotates into a perpendicular positon it's an unpleasant experience in the wee hours of the morning. He also likes to "knead" us with his feet. If we straighten him out and snuggle him in close he still tends to go back to the feet thing.

Has anyone experienced this?! If so, have you been able to remedy the situation?

Oh Yea! I know exactly what you mean. Just keep your face covered when you sleep. I've taken a few nasty blows when DD does some sort of horizontal spin slamming her speeding arm into my sleeping nose.

Advice? Lots of pillows and do some rotating of your own. The only other thing I ever did besides put up with it was that if it seemed assoicated with a dream or was continious, I would have DD sit up and drink some water (which was always available in a sippy cup near the bed). The cool water and mental move into semi-awareness seemed to cool the kicking for another hour or two.

Best of luck, and in reality, enjoy it. Our DD got up one morning and said basically "I'm outta here. I want my own bed in my own room." The rest is history.

Cheers,

pb

What we did at first was upgrade to a King. After a little while of blissful sleep, it's like she grew a foot or something. So, what we do now is she sleeps on a crib mattress next to ours. Our bed was already on the floor, so there's hardly a drop at all. Our bedroom is one big mattress. Literally. But now, she's wanting a bed in her room now. She'll probably take a year or more to transition to that, though.

We switched ds to his own bed because he was head banging, and crotch-kicking (poor dh) while we were trying to sleep. The little guy is a bed HOG!! He sleeps in the strangest positions.

1 - wider bed if poss.
2- the pillow pen-in is wise

Our DS is a major kickin' chickin'... has this thing with jamming his feet down your jammies, not fun, not comfy at all. We penned him in with pillows, gently of course and he can kick to his heart's content without killing mama or dad.

Our bed is a California king.. the largest size of beds... I have a cofession: I hate sharing the bed:eek I am a blanket hog. Dh and I have our own blankets. I use 2 body pillows, and1 for my head...The body pillows are so I don't knock knees, and for my back. I have a bad knee, and they both hurt if they rub together. Yep, I know...I am odd:o
