I'm taking a prenatal, calcium, and fish oil. I was taking evening primrose, but I may stop.
I'd love to hear more about the supergreens, vegan mommy!

Prenatals, flax, and my daily dose of Synthroid here. I also have been drinking some Yogi mother to be tea, which is probably useless but it makes me feel better (mentally that is). I need to get me some B-complex, calcium, and some RRL tincture too.
I took extra Vit C during all my other pregnancies because I heard it helps with stretch marks (strengthens collagen or something), as well as strengthening the sac. I don't know if it actually worked, but I don't really have any stretch marks and I swear I had the sac of steel with my past pregnancies. My youngest was nearly born in the caul. My water broke about 2 seconds before he crowned. I don't know if I'll do all that extra vit c this time. It probably won't matter either way, but I would kinda like my water to break earlier on instead of after being in labor more than 24 hours. Maybe it'd speed things up just a touch. And if there's something I can do to help out there, then I'm all for it. :thumb
Sorry for the novel :blah :blah :blah

Autumnfaery: Vitex might help. I started taking it on the advice of an herbalist 2 weeks before my edd and I had a great labour - a week early from the edd!
I'm taking prenatals, fish oil, calcium, b complex, chlorella, and homeopathics for the liver (helps with nausea), pituitary and nerves from the ND.

See after being induced 2 times and then having natural labor where my water broke on its own...I want my water to break as late in the game as possible. Really changes the intensity of the contractions!

What do those tinctures do? What is RRL? I'm just taking a prenatal supplement and an omega oil supplement. I'm eating flaxseeds and trying to have yogurt, milk, and other high-protein snacks during the day. I need to take an iron supplement so that I don't get anemic again. I have a greens mix from Trader Joe's - but I didn't know if it was okay to take too much at one time while pregnant.
Anyway, I'd appreciate some info on what all the herbal tinctures do. Doing some research. Also, what brand of prenatal do you all think is best?

RRL is red raspberry leaf, it tones the uterus. It is some times said best to avoid in the first trimester if at higher risk for m/c.
I like rainbow light once a day prenatals.
I also take: fish oil, flaxseed oil, probiotics, vit C, Vit E, Pregnancy prep (to help with progesterone) and a progesterone cream. I think I'll start adding in alfalfa leaf tea pretty soon too.

Bertrandsgirl - the tinctures I take were prescribed by my herbalist - she tells me that tinctures make the herb more readily available to your body. I'm sure teas work in much the same way - but I don't have the time, so I know I wouldn't take them regularly.
The RRL tincture is to tone the uterus
Nettles was prescribed to help reduce water weight gain which is caused by another med I have to take
Oat tops contains calcium per my herbalist

Wow, you all are great! I was taking only a prenatal but that was making me super sick so I quit and need to get another one. Thank goodness I'd been taking it for several months before I got pg. Oh, yeah, and I'm taking cal/mag to hopefully ward off any irritable uterus.
Tell me about the tinctures. I usually drink RRL, nettles and peppermint tea but it makes me feel sick so I quit. How do you use the tincture? Can you taste it? What do you put it in? My next choice is capsules but I know that tincture is much better than capsule.

peilover - Not to freak you out, but I've heard that tumeric can cause miscarriage if in higher amounts than in a curry or something. I think it stimulates the uterus.

mimi! - I'll have to check that out, checked with my herbalist before I got pregnant and she said it would be fine - maybe I should do my own research. Do you have a link by chance?
nfbmom - the tinctures do have a taste, but you basically put the tincture in water, I usually just put all 3 in my cranberry/oj mixture every morning, but you could do it with water too, just avoid anything HOT (temp-wise). I really can't taste them too much - even in plain water.

Mimi! - I found some links, nothing concrete, no studies - but it is a uterine stimulant. I think I'll go ahead and discontinue it for now - just to feel better about it. Bothers me that my herbalist didn't share this information with me. Thanks for the heads up!

Hey Steph when I first read your list the turmeric stood out but I looked it up in Hilary Jacobson's book "Mother Food" and this is what it says:
"some herbalists say that pregnant women who are not used to taking turmeric should not use a theraputic dosage if they are at risk for miscarriage."
from the way you had written the list it sounded like you had been taking it for awhile so I didn't think much of it..
Some other tidbits on it:
"while breastfeeding, it's best to use whole turmeric, as the concentrated extract, cucumin, has not yet been tested for breastfeeding"
and finally:
"Turmeric is considered safe within the recommended dosage. Very high dosages for long periods produced adverse symptoms in rodents."
Hope that helps!

sling - thank you! Yes, I have been taking it for awhile now (about 9 months straight). But, I think I'll cut my dose down a bit, just to make me feel better about it.
That's a good tidbit about bf'ing, though. I remember when I get to that point as mine has a fairly high level of curcumin in it.
